Remembering Mets History (2025) Mets Retire David Wright's Uniform #5 & Induct Him Into the Team's Hall of Fame
David was joined by his wife Molly, his three children & his parents. Many of Wrights teammates who he chose were on hand, Jose Reyes, Daniel Murphy, Cliff Floyd, Michael Cuddyer, Joe McEwing & Josh Satin as well as managers Terry Collins & Willie Randolph. His long time agent, former Met, Keith Miller, his former coach & former Mets player Howard Johnson as well as long time bullpen coach Dave Racaniello.
David came out from a gated area & walked over to the third base line standing on the golden base saluting the fans, put there in his honor. Along the way to the main area he greeted his family & friends. David & his son both donned baby blue Hall of Fame jackets tailor made by the team.
David's uniform #5 was displayed next to Daryl Strawberry's #18 above the Citi Field rafters joining Mets players- Tom Seaver, Mike Piazza, Keith Hernandez, Willie Mays & Dwight Gooden as well as managers Gil Hodges & Casey Stengel.
The fans gave him an emotional ovation for the player & the man they loved.

Wright is second all time in Mets games played with 1585. Wright is first in franchise history in Hits (1777) doubles (390) RBIs (970) walks (762) & WAR (49.1).He hit a career .296 (tied with Mike Piazza for third on Mets all time list). Wright is third in HRs (242) fourth in steals (196) & on base % (.376%) ninth in triples (26).
David & his children threw out the ceremonial first pitch in the afternoon's game in which the Mets dropped to the Reds 5-2.
