Remembering Mets History (2024) Brandon Nimmo HRs in Three Straight Games With 10 RBIs Over a Six Game Span

From July 6th thru July 11th, Brandon Nimmo would have a hot streak that included HRs in three straight games, with RBIs in five straight games, having three multi-RBI games. In the six games he batted .369 with nine hits, three HRs, two doubles ten RBIs, five runs scored & a 1.185 OPS. 

Sunday July 7th, 2024: The previous night in the Mets 5-2-win, Brandon Nimmo had a multi-three hit game, one of his seven multi-three or more hit games. This afternoon Sean Manea pitched six shutout innings giving up just two hits, striking out six & walking three. Over his last three starts Manaea had given up one earned run in 18 innings but earned just one victory. 

In the top of the 7th, Reed Garrett pitched a scoreless inning.

In the top of the 8th inning, after Jose Iglesias was caught stealing, Jose Lindor drew a walk. Brandon Nimmo then doubled to centerfield scoring Lindor with the first run. 

In the bottom of the 8th, Dedniel Nunez struck out two batters but gave up two hits. Edwin Diaz
came on in relief. After walking Joshua Palacios then Nick Gonzales singled bringing in two runs putting the Pirates ahead as Diaz was charged with his fifth blown save.

In the top of the 9th, Harrison Bader singled & the Pirates Aroldis Chapman walked two batters to load the bases. Francisco Lindor added a two-run single putting the Mets ahead for good 3-2 as Edwin Diaz closed it out with a save.

Monday July 8th, 2024: The Mets couldn't complete the sweep in Pittsburgh as they took an 8-2 loss.

Brandon Nimmo collected two hits hitting his 14th HR of the year, a two-run shot off Mitch Keller. Nimmo reached 55 RBIs on the season.

Tuesday July 9th, 2024: The Mets opened up a six game homestand at Citi Field, starting with the Washington Nationals.

In the bottom of the 2nd, Jeff McNeil drew a two out walk, followed by Harrison Bader's single to center field. Francisco Lindor hit an RBI single putting the Mets up 1-0.

Brandon Nimmo then hit his 15th HR of the season, a three-run shot giving the Mets a 4-0 lead. Nimmo had now homered in back-to-back games with his second straight multi-RBI game. 

In the 6th inning, Francisco Lindor added a two run HR, his 16th of the season giving the Mets a 6-0 lead. In the 8th Tyrone Taylor tripled then Jeff McNeil doubled in the Mets seventh run.

Jose Quintina pitched seven shutout innings, but the Mets bullpen made it close as Adam Ottavino gave up a two run HR to Ildemaro Vargas & Reed Garrett served up a two run HR to Keibert Ruiz as the Mets went on to a 7-5 victory. The Mets would lose Garrett for a month after the game with nerve inflammation.

Wednesday July 10th, 2024: In the bottom of the 1st inning, the hot hitting Brandon Nimmo homered in his third straight game, his 16th of the season gave the Mets a 1-0 lead. 

Quotes: Brandon Nimmo: "I've kind of always known, when I've been in the big leagues that there was more in the tank. It was just getting it out while playing a season making adjustments, getting a little bit better here & there as you're trying to compete on a daily basis." I do feel my numbers have spoken for themselves this year & I do feel like I've played All Star worthy to be selected."

In the bottom of the 6th, After two lead-off hits, ark Vientos doubled bringing in the Mets second run. After Francisco Alvarez walked, Jose Iglesias delivered a two-run double, but Francisco Alvarez was thrown out at third base. Later in the inning, Iglesias scored on Luis Garcia Jr.'s error giving the Mets a 5-2 lead.

In the bottom of the 8th, Jose Iglesias hit a two out double, then scored on Tyrone Taylor's third triple of the season with the Mets sixth run. Luis Severino earned his sixth win (6-2) giving up the two Nationals run. Jake Diekman, Danny Young & Jose Butto went the rest of the way in the 6-2 combined shut out.

Thursday July 11th, 2024: As the Mets went for the sweep of the Nationals to stay in the hot wild card race, David Peterson had one of his best starts to date, pitching six scoreless innings striking out eight batters. Phil Maton, Danny Young, Dedniel Nunez & Adam Ottavino closed out the rest of the combined shut out. 

The Mets had nine combined shut outs on the season with Luis Severino throwing a complete game shut out on his own.

In the bottom of the 5th, Luis Torrens doubled to start the inning. After Mackenzie Gore retired the next two batters, he walked Jeff McNeil & Francisco Lindor. Brandon Nimmo then came up & cleared the bases with a three-run triple to deep left center field. 

J.D. Martinez singled to left center & Nimmo raced home diving in safely for the fourth Met run. Pete Alonso followed with an RBI base hit scoring J.D. as the Mets went ahead 5-0.

In the bottom of the 8th, the Mets collected four base hits with Mark Vientos & Harrison Bader providing the RBI hits finishing off the 7-0 win. 

Trivia: In the Mets 2024 Wild Card season Nimmo drove in a career high 90 runs. He would have 25- multi-RBI games, with three or more RBIs in eleven games.
