Remembering Mets History (2022) Brandon Nimmo & Francisco Lindor HR in a 4th of July Victory at Great American Ballpark

Monday-Fourth of July 2022: Buck Schowalter's Mets were comfortably 19 games over .500 atop the NL East with a three-game lead. 

After a short homestand where they lost three of five, they were in Cincinnati for the Independance Day Holiday. 

David Bell's Reds were struggling at 27-51. On this afternoon 19,533 came out to Great American Ballpark as the Mets Taijuan Walker took on Hunter Green.

In the top of the 1st, the Mets Brandon Nimmo led off with a base hit but was thrown out trying to steal second. They would load the bases, but Eduardo Escobar popped up to end the inning.

In the top of the 2nd, Mark Canha was hit by a pitch to start the inning. Tomas Nido dropped a
one out base hit to right field. Brandon Nimmo then hit a three run HR, to give them a 3-0 lead. For Nimmo it was his sixth HR of the season.

In the bottom of the 3rd inning, Taijuan Walker started the inning hitting Matt Reynolds with a pitch. Aramis Garcia followed with an infield single. 

Former Met Brandon Drury then tied the game with a three run HR to right field. For Drury it was his 17th HR of the season, that year he would hit a career high 28 HRs with 87 RBIs.

In the top of the 5th, Francisco Lindor broke the tie with a two out HR to right field, it was his 13th HR of the season & 57th RBI.

In the top of the 6th, Jeff McNeil singled & Mark Canha doubled to right field. As pitcher Hunter Green was relieved, Reiver Sanmartin came in & gave up an immediate two run double to Dom Smith giving the Mets a 6-3 lead. 

In the top of the 7th, Francisco Lindor collected his second hit & Eduardo Escobar drove him in with a base hit to left field, capping off the Mets scoring with their seventh run.

Taijuan Walker earned the win pitching six innings allowing the three runs on four hits, striking out nine batters. Walker would strike out nine or more batters five times on the season. Drew Smith would allow another run, Colin Holderman earned a hold & Seth Lugo got his third save.
