Remembering Mets History: (2007) Tom Glavine Wins 300th Career Game
Sunday August 5th, 2007: The sellout crowd at Wrigley Field in Chicago was host to the first place New York Mets (63-48) & second place hometown Cubs (58-52) on ESPN's Sunday Night baseball.
There was plenty of hype & excitement as Mets pitcher Tom Glavine was going for his 300th career win.
In 2003 he joined the Mets & struggled to 9-14 on a poor team. In 2004 he won 11 games, then as the team improved, he won 13 or more games over the next three seasons.

Just a few nights earlier in Milwaukee Glavine had left the mound with a 2-1 lead, but the Mets bullpen blew the lead & lost the game in extra innings.
Tom Glavine Trivia: Glavine had spent 1987-2002 with the Braves usually an archrival of the Mets. In that time, he was a five time twenty-game winner collecting 242 wins.

In the 2006 post season in his first two starts, he was 2-0 not allowing an earned run in the first 13 innings before giving uo three runs in the Game #5 NLCS loss to St. Louis.
The 41-year-old Glavine entered the game at 9-6 with a 4.38 ERA, having won four of his last five games.

In the bottom of the 3rd, the Cubs collected a pair of two out hits, but Alfonso Soriano was thrown at third base by Lastings Milledge to end the inning.
In the top of the 5th Luis Castillo collected one of his four hits on the night with a base hit. Carlos Delgado then doubled to right field making it 2-0. Carlos' friend, Shawn Green followed with a two out double off the Ivy, making it a 3-0 Mets lead for Glavine.
In the top of the 6th, Lastings Milledge who had a multi-three hit game, doubled & was brought home by Jose Reyes base hit.
Reyes would advance to second on Luis Castillo's third hit of the game. Reyes then stole his 53rd base of the season, swiping third base.
Reyes scored when Carlos Delgado grounded to second base giving the Mets & Tom Glavine a 5-0 lead.
In the bottom of the 6th, the Cubs Derek Lee & Aramis Ramirez both doubled scoring the Cubs first run.
In the bottom of the 7th, Glavine got Mark DeRosa to ground out & then Angel Pagan doubled to left. Mets manager Willie Randolph came out & removed Glavine on his historic night.

As mentioned, Luis Castillo had a four-hit game. Lastings Milledge collected three hits with a walk getting his average to .305. Jose Reyes went 3-6 on the night, with an RBI, two runs scored & his league leading 11th triple.
The Mets manager, Willie Randolph used five other Met pitchers after Glavine's exit, as Billy Wagner closed out the 8-3 victory.
