Remembering Mets History (2025) Pete Alonso Become the Mets All-Time HR King
Tuesday August 12th, 2025: The Mets came off a disastrous three game road trip in Milwaukee where they were swept. They had lost seven straight games falling to six games out of first place. On June 12th they had been riding high 21 games over .500 since then they have gone 19-30.
Tonight they hosted the fifth place Atlanta Braves (51-67) in front of 39,748 fans who came out to see Pete Alonso go for a Mets all time record.
In the bottom of the 2nd Pete Alonso led off with his 30th double of the year. It was the third time on his career Alonso reached the thirty doubles mark. Cedrick Mullins then singled to centerfield scoring Alonso. Francisco Alvarez followed with a two run HR, his fifth HR of the season making it 3-0 Mets.
In the bottom of the 3rd inning, Brandon Nimmo singled to left field. Pete Alonso came up & hit a two run off Scott Spencer to right field.
All Time Mets HR Leader: The HR put Pete Alonso first on the All-Time Mets franchise HR list passing Darryl Strawberry with 253.As Pete rounded the bases he smiled for the cheering fans raising his fist in the air. He was greeted at home plate by teammates Brandon Nimmo & Jeff McNeil who have been teammates with Alonso since he debuted in 2019. Alonso also holds the Mets single season HR mark with 42 set that season.
In 965 career Mets games after 3581 at bats Pete reached 253 HRs as the Mets All Time HR King.

The Alonso HR gave the Mets a 5-1 lead.
In the top of the 4th Clay Holmes gave up a pair of two run doubles to Nacho Alvarez & Matt Olsen tying up the game at five.
In the bottom of the 4th, Francisco Lindor with yet another hair do singled to raise his average to .243 & Juan Soto does what he does best, drew a walk. Brandon Nimmo broke the tie with his 20th HR of the season, the three run shot off Spencer Strider made it 8-5.
In the bottom of the 5th Cedrick Mullins collected his second hit, for his 20th double of the season. Francisco Alvarez doubled to score Mullins making it 9-5 New York. Bret Baty followed with a base hit scoring the slow footed Alvarez for a 10-5 lead.
In the bottom of the 6th, Pete Alonso launched his 28th HR of the season, moving forward with a new Mets record 254 career HRs. It was Alonso's fourth multi-HR games of the season & the 25th of his career. Alonso now has a team leading 96 RBIs just one behind Kyle Schwarber for the NL lead.
In the bottom of the 7th, Francisco Alvarez hit his second HR of the night & Bret Baty went back-to-back with his 13th HR of the year.
The Mets went on to an 13-5 win breaking a horrible embarrassing seven game losing streak. In August they are 2-7, dating back to July 1st the team is 16-17 having fallen out of first place to five games behind the Phillies.
Gregory Soto got the win, in six games since coming to the Mets he has not allowed a run in 6.2 scoreless innings. Justin Hagenman collected his first career save.
Trivia: In another team embarrassment, the Mets had to cancel fireworks night as the ran out of pyro technics after firing them off on the Mets six HRs.
