Hayden Senger: Mets Back Up Catcher & Former Supermarket Worker (2025)
Hayden attended Miami University in Ohio, playing baseball on the Red Hawks team earning First Team All American & All-Defensive Team selections. In 2018 he was selected by the New York Mets in the 24th round.
The catcher spent seven long years in the Mets minor leagues, going thru the ranks before finally making it to the big leagues at age 28.
Mets Career: After a good 2025 Spring he made the Mets team heading north for Opening Day backing up Luis Torrens as Francisco Alvarez started on the season on the IL. In the Opening Day loss he made his MLB debut coming into the game in the 8th inning. In his first at bat he struck out.
On April 2nd in a 6-5 win in South Florida, Hayden collected his first career hit, a double off
Connor Gillespie.
On June 22nd Senger returned back with the Mets when Francisco Alvarez was sent down to AAA Syracuse to get his act together.
In early July Senger collected hits in back-to-back games, including a single in a subway series loss. Senger's travels continued a s he went back to AAA Syracuse then returned to the Mets on August 19th when Alvarez went down with a thumb sprain.
On August 21st, Senger collected his first career RBI with sac fly in a loss to the Nationals.
the Mets first run. Later in the top of the 8th, he singled off Eddie Freck driving in two runs for his first multi-RBI games in the 12-7 win.
On the year, in 33 games he hit .181 with 13 hits in 72 at bats & four RBIs. Behind the plate with his strong arm, he threw out 33% of would be base stealers, 10% above the league average.
Trivia: Hayden proudly wears an American Flag on his right shoulder protector.
Family: In 2023 Hayden married his wife Ryann who is a Physician's assistant. The couple live in Nashville, Tennessee where Hayden also worked at a Whole Foods Market in the off seasons to be closer to his wife.
