Daniel Muno: Former Mets Infielder (2015)
Daniel Joseph Muno born February 9th, 1989 in Long Beach California. The five foot eleven switch hitting infielder attended Loyola High School.
Daniel then went to California State University at Fresno getting named All-Western State helping lead Fresno to the College World Series in his Freshman year. In his junior year he became the school's all-time walks leader. In 2010 Muno was get drafted by the Chicago Cubs but did not sign. In 2011 he was selected in the 8th round by the New York Mets.
In 2011 at A-ball Brooklyn he led the NY-Penn League in batting (.359) & on base % (.466) getting named to the All Star team. He was named the 30th best prospect in the Mets organization.
In 2012 he tested positive for performance enhancing drugs while at A-ball St. Lucie. Over the next two seasons he earned a reputation for good discipline around the strike zone & with his speed was a stolen base threat. By 2014, Muno had moved up to AA Binghamton & then AAA Las Vegas. At Vegas he hit a career best 14 HRs with 62 RBIs.
Mets Career: In the Mets 2015 NL Championship season, Muno made the Mets team out of Spring Training. On April 17th in a 4-1 win at Citi Field, he debuted as a pinch hitter collecting his first career hit in his first at bat, a single off the Marlins Sam Dyson. He also stole his first MLB base.Muno made three pinch hit appearances before getting a start at third base for the injured David Wright. He would see action n five games at third base & one at second.
Three Errors In a Game: On June 13th in a 5-3 loss to the Braves at Citi Field, Muno made three errors in a game tying a Mets record. In the top of the 4th inning, Muno made an error on a groundball to third base. In the top of the 6th, Muno made a throwing error on a Kelly Johnson grounder for his second error of the game. In the top of the 8th, Muno made his second throwing error of the game, his second error on a ball hit by Nick Markakis & his third overall error of the game for a Mets record.
He was sent down to AAA Las Vegas for a month returned in July for four games collecting a double going 1-3. On August 31st he was released.In 2016 he signed with a minor league deal with the White Sox but was soon released. He then signed on with the Miami Marlins playing at AA Jacksonville. In 2017 he signed with the Detroit Tigers was released & went to play in the Atlantic League for the Maryland Blue Crabs. In 2017 he had his contract purchased by the Seattle Mariners where he played at AAA Tacoma in 62 games.
Retirement: In 2019 he worked for Tacoma as a sales manager.
Family: Daniel is married to Kelsey (Russell) together they have three children.
