Saturday August 9th, 2025: Pete Alonso tied Darryl Strawberry for the Mets all time HR mark. Congratulations to Pete, where would we be without him. Unfortunately, it's hard to get excited about anything this team does.
The ship is sinking fast as the Mets now have lost six in a row nine of their last ten games. Since June 12th when they were twenty-one games over .500 with a comfortable 5.5 games lead over the Phillies in first place, the have gone 18- 30 falling 4.5 games behind the Phillies & dropping to the third wild card spot with the Reds just 2.5 games behind them.
It's a totally opposite from last year when on June 12th they were 29-37 then went 32-19 thru August 10th. In reality, playing that well they barely made the playoffs. They got hot & got eliminated by the eventual World Champions. It was an exciting run because no one expected them to get there.
But this year the expectations are high; they are supposed to win. In the off season they added one of the game's biggest names, their young players were supposed to mature & grow off of last season's experiences. This team was built to win & on paper looked like they were going to win. They walk around smiling & posing for pictures like they won something but in reality, they are nothing but an embarrassing bunch of under achievers.
Forget about singing My Girl, the grimace & that stupid trumpet thing. Boo these clowns out of town, let them hear it. Hit the ball & win ball games.
See why Juan Soto has been with four teams in eight years?? All that money to lead the league in walks & bat .175 with runners in scoring position? He needs to stop bending over to watch the ball go into the catcher's glove & telling the umpire it's not a strike. He needs to hit the ball, when it counts.
I've always felt Mr. Lindor was overaerated, he needs to raise that .245 average instead of smiling & changing his hair do. No need to continue calling out players, because up & down the line up, it's all a failure.
The team is batting just .238, 12th in the National League, just two points higher than the Rockies & an overall 23rd in MLB.I think Mr. Sterns has put together another rag tag starting pitching group that wouldn't survive the first round of the playoffs against anyone. But surprisingly the staff has the fourth best ERA in the league.
Getting another big hitter at the trade deadline wasn't going to solve anything, they actually improved by addressing their bullpen needs while adding a centerfielder with speed.
David Sterns needs to get out of New York & go back to the mid-west with a small market team. If we fire Mendoza who will replace him that can steer this ship in the right direction? Only the players can help themselves by stepping up & producing. They better do it fast.
