Remembering Mets History (2019) Seaver Way Officially Named Along Citi Field

June 27th, 2019: On this sunny afternoon the New York Mets & the City of New York officially named a section of 126th St along Citi Field, Seaver Way. The new address to Citi Field was now officially 41 Seaver Way, in honor of the greatest Met of All Time & the uniform number 41 in which he wore.

Although Seaver himself was not well enough to attend, he was represented by his two daughters Sarah & Ann along with their families.

Tom Seaver's 1969 World Champion Mets teammates Bud Harrelson, Jerry Koosman, Jerry Grote, Cleon Jones & Ron Swoboda were also on hand for the official street & address naming. Also on hand were Queens councilman & Cardinal Timothy Dolan.

On this day the Mets CEO Jeff Wilpon also announced that the Tom Seaver statue would be
coming to Citi Field the following year.

Quotes- Sarah Seaver (Zaske): "His message to us is the work is in your heart, that puts a pep in your step. Show how excited you feel. Work your rear end off & follow it. Whatever that thing in your heart, do it to the very best of your ability. That is the Tom Seaver Way."

Quotes- Cleon Jones: "What you saw was the guy on the mound, the guy that won all the games. What I saw was the guy that did all the hard work, the guy that stayed at the ballpark after the game was over to try to work out the kinks. He was the guy who came to work early to make sure he could help all the guys on the ball club. He was a team player in every sense of the word. As a result, he helped mold & shape the 1969 Mets.

Quotes- Ron Swoboda: "This is appropriate because Tom Seaver is the best thing that ever happened to the NY Mets. He gave them the credibility they had been searching for. He was a Hall of Famer from day one. There was no break in period for Tom Seaver. He had that Hall of Fame confidence, that Hall of Fame stuff & that Hall of Fame attitude".
