Remembering Mets History (2025) Pete Alonso Has Multi- HR- Five RBI Night at Dodger Stadium

Wednesday June 4th, 2025: This four game series at Dodger Stadium featured two of the top teams in the NL, a rematch of last season's NLCS. Both teams were in first place in their respective division, with the Mets tied with the Cubs for the league's best record, the Dodgers were one game behind that.

The first two games were just as exciting as advertised, with both games going to extra innings with each team taking a win.

In this third game of the four-game set, Dave Roberts Dodgers (37-24) hosted the Carlos Mendoza's Mets (38-23).

Griffin Canning who had been a pleasant surprise for the Mets, coming off a loss to the White Sox came in at 5-2 with a 3.23 ERA. The Dodgers Tony Gonsolin, who the Mets had beaten in New York the previous week took the mound for L.A.

In the top of the 1st, Francisco Lindor was hit in the foot with a pitch. Brandon Nimmo grounded into what looked like a double play but second baseman Enrique Hernandez let the ball go past him into centerfield.

Juan Soto then grounded out to Freddie Freeman at first allowing Lindor to score the Mets first run.

Pete Alonso then hit his 13th HR of the year, the two-run shot put the Mets up 3-0.

The Mets Griffin Canning continued his fine season, having one of his best starts of the year. Canning went six shutout innings, allowing just three hits, as he struck out seven, one shy of his season high & walked one.

Canning struck out Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman & Max Muncy one time each in his seven K night.

In the top of the 8th, Brandon Nimmo was hit by a pitch to start the inning. He was the second Met to get hit by a pitch on the night & it was the 40th time a Mets batter was hit this season. Juan Soto then drew his third walk of the evening.

Pete Alonso followed with his second HR of the night, a 447' blast that landed in the corridor off the left field pavilion. It was the first HR young pitcher Ryan Loutos gave up in his career.

It was Pete's 14th HR of the night giving him a multi-five RBI night. He now had a league leading 53 RBIs in 62 games for the season.

Quotes- Pete Alonso: "I was just more excited to grab some insurance runs right there. That's a very high octane offense they have out there so those insurance runs are really big for us & give us a breather".

Pete Alonso Trivia: It was Alonso's first multi-HR game of the season & the 22nd of his career. The five RBIs were also a season high & the 11th time in his career he collected five or more RBIs in a game. Alonso now has 240 Mets career HRs just 12 away from Darryl Strawberry's franchise record 252.

Pete is just two behind David Wright in second place. Pete also has the most multi-HR games in franchise history.

In the bottom of the 9th, Ryne Stanek served up HR to Andy Pages for the lone Dodger run as New York went on to a 6-1 victory.

Griffin Canning got the win & reached six wins, matching his total wins from his previous season pitching with the Angels. The Mets had won five of six, nine of their last eleven.
