Remembering Mets History (2012) Johan Santana Throws First Mets No Hitter

Friday night June 1st, 2012: At first it seemed like any other New York night. Terry Collins' New York Mets were playing well & surprising everyone with a 29-23 record, just one game out of first place. 27,069 fans came to Citi Field to see the Mets go up against the reigning World Champion, St Louis Cardinals (27-25). The Mets sent Johan Santana to the mound, 2-2 with a 2.75 ERA. Santana had missed all of 2011 due to injury, he had an impressive Opening Day win, pitching five scoreless innings then struggled. In his last start he threw a complete game four hit shutout at Citi Field, beating the San Diego Padres. On this night he was even better, he went out & made Mets history. After a quiet 1st inning, Johan started out the 2nd getting Allen Craig to fly out. Friday, May 27th, 2016: A large crowd of 43,462 showed up at Citi Field to see the reigning NL Champion Mets (28-19) host Dave Roberts' Los Angeles Dodgers (25-24) in a rematch of the previous year's NLCS. The Mets had rebounded from a losing streak where they lost six of seven games on the road from May 12th to May 19th to winning five of six on the latest homestand. On the mound Mets ace Jacob deGrom (3-1) was going for his fourth win, facing off against the Dodgers rookie Julio Urias, making his MLB debut. Urias would go 5-2 on the year. He would win twenty games in 2021 going 20-3 with an incredible .870 winning%. In the bottom of the 1st, the Mets attacked starter Julio Urias as Asdrubal Cabrera doubled & advanced to third on a wild pitch.  Then with two outs Yoenis Cespedes walked.  Neil Walker then doubled scoring Cabrera.  The 2022 ten game RBI streak of Francisco Lindor: Sunday, May 22nd, 2022: Today Buck Showalter's first place Mets (27-15) played the rubber game of a three-game set at Coors Field with Bud Black's Colorado Rockies. Taijuan Walker pitched seven shutout innings for his second win. The Mets bullpen of Adam Ottavino, Joley Rodriguez & Edwin Diaz closed the door in the last two innings of a 2-0 Mets win. In the top of the 6th, Brandon Nimmo singled & got to third on an error by right fielder Randal Grichuk. Francisco Lindor started his RBI streak with a base hit to left. Pete Alonso drove in the second & final run with his league leading 37th RBI. Monday, May 23rd, 2022: The Mets moved on to San Francisco & opened up the series with a big 13-3 win. Pete Alonso (11th- 3RBIs) Jeff McNeil (2nd- 2RBIs) & Mark Canha (4th-2 RBIs) all homered in the Mets 18 hit attack.  Eduardo Escobar & J.D. Remembering Mets History (2005) Jose Reyes Hits Seven Triples Over Ten Day Span

May 2005:  Jose Reyes was playing in his third big league season but his first full season as a regular player. The speedy Reyes would lead the league in triples for the first of four times in his career. In 2005 he would 17 for the first in back-to-back seasons leading the league both years. From May 16th to May 26th, in ten games over a ten day stretch Reyes would collect seven triples, batting .333 with 15 hits 9 RBIs 7 runs scored & three stolen bases. May 16th: At Shea Stadium, Jose  Reyes led off the bottom of the 1st with a triple to center field. then scored on Carlos Beltran's sac fly. Reyes collected two hits on the night as the Mets went on to beat the Reds 9-2.  After going hitless the next night, Jose collected a pair of triples with a muti-three hit game, with two runs scored & an RBI helping the Mets sweep the series with the Reds. Remembering Mets History (2007) Carlos Delgado Collects Three Walk Off Wins Over Two Weeks

Monday May 14th, 2007:   Willie Randolph's first place Mets (24-13) were up by a half game over the Atlanta Braves at this early point in the season. Tonight, the Mets opened up a four-game series with Lou Pinella's Chicago Cubs (17-19). The Cubs would finish first this season getting swept by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the NLDS.  In the series opener Tom Glavine went up against Long Island Born, Jason Marquis in what was to be a fine pitching matchup in front of 34, 033 fans at Shea Stadium. In the top of the 1st, Glavine gave up a double to Alfonso Soriano & an RBI single to Aramis Ramirez.  In the top of the 2nd, the Cubs put up three more runs with an RBI double from Cezar Izturis & a two run single from the pitcher Jason Marquis, giving the Cubs a 4-0 lead. Remembering Mets History (1986) Mets Walk Off On Giants Extra Inning Error

Friday May 30th, 1986: Tonight, Davey Johnson's first place Mets (30-11) hosted Roger Craig's fourth place San Francisco Giants (24-23).  Roger Craig Trivia: Craig had been an original Met, spending two years with the Mets leading the NL in losses both years. He began his career with the 1955 World Champion Brooklyn Dodgers & moved with them to Los Angeles spending a total of eight years with them pitching in four World Series. After his playing days, he became a highly successful pitching coach teaching the split finger fastball which he mastered. A crowd of 38,243 came out to see Bruce Berenyi (2-0) take on Mike Lacoss (5-1). Bruce Berenyi would start the year at 2-0 for the Mets. He would fall to 2-2 then sent back down to AAA in early July. He would appear in 14 games for the '86 Champs, making seven starts for New York. Trivia: Mike Lacoss would start the year at 9-3 for the Giants then lose ten of his last eleven games to finish at 10-13. In the bottom of the 1s...
