Danny Young: South Florida Born Mets Pitcher (2024 - 2025)

Daniel Alexander Young was born in Boynton Beach, Florida on May 27th, 1994. The six foot three lefthander, graduated from St. Andrews School in Boca Raton then attended the University of Florida.

At the University of Florida, he pitched for three seasons with the Gators & was a cross-country runner. In 2015 he was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the eighth round of the draft. He would spend six years in the minor leagues with Toronto, Cleveland & Seattle.

MLB Debut: On May 9th, 2022, Young made his debut in Seattle finishing off a 9-0 loss to the Phillies. He made one more appearance before getting placed on waivers in August then getting picked up by the Atlanta Braves. On August 15th he made his only appearance for the Braves finishing off a 13-7 win over the Mets, pitching 2.2 scoreless innings.

In 2023 Young began the season with the Braves, making eight appearances finishing off five games with a 1.08 ERA. He was released, resigned by Atlanta then let go to free agency.


Mets Career: In January 2024 he was signed by the New York Mets. In 2024 he would get sent to AAA then brought back to the big-league club three times.

2024 Mets Wild Card Season: On May 2nd Young made his Mets debut coming in relief of a tied game with the Cubs in the top of 10th inning. He gave up an RBI double to Nick Madrigal allowing the inherited runner to score. The inning ended when Madrigal was thrown out at home plate trying to score on Mike Tauchman's base hit. In the bottom of the inning, Harrison Bader was hit by a pitch & Francisco Lindor hit a two-run walk off double getting Young the victory.

On May 30th, he came on in the 8th inning of a 2-2 tie with Arizona, pitching a scoreless inning earning his second win when JD Martinez hit an 8th inning HR leading to the 3-2 win. He was one of four relievers in franchise history to have two wins in their first three games.

From May 3rd to June 25th, he allowed just one run ten appearances, collecting two holds. In the June 25th-26th subway series wins, he gave up two runs in each game, then two more runs in his third consecutive appearance in a loss to Houston. 

From July 10th to August 10th, he pitched eleven scoreless innings in eleven appearances lowering his ERA to 2.70, helping the Mets bullpen as they maintained a spot in the wild card race. From July 10th to September 7th, Young was 1-0 with four holds posting a 1.29 ERA. He was a surprise help to the injury riddled Mets bullpen that summer.

On September 4th at Citi Field, he came on in the 7th inning, earning the win over Boston to get to 3-0. 

On September 11th in Toronto, the Blue Jays Bowden Francis had a no hitter going thru eight innings. Francisco Lindor spoiled the bid with a HR to lead off the 9th tying up the game at one. The Mets would put up six runs in the inning, led by Francisco Alvarez's three run HR. Danny Young had gotten the last out of the 8th inning & earned the victory to get to 4-0.  

On September 14th, in Philadelphia he came on in the 7th inning trying to hold a 4-3 lead. But Young gave up singles to Bryson Scott & JT Realmuto before getting relieved. Reed Garrett gave up a two-run double to Cal Stevenson with the runs charged to Young. He took his first loss of the season. He once again gave up runs in three straight appearances that week, allowing seven runs in just 1.2 innings of work.

On the season Young was 4-1 with a 4.54 ERA. He had six holds with 48 strike outs & 18 walks in 37.2 innings in 42 appearances.


2024 Post Season:
In the NLCS loss to the Dodgers, he made two appearances in Mets losses. In Game #1 at Dodger Stadium, Young pitched parts of the 6th & 7th innings. In Game #4 at Citi Field, he finished off the last 2.1 innings of the 10-2 loss giving up two runs.

2025: In 2025 Young made the team out of Spring Training for the first time in his career. On Opening Day he finished off the Mets 3-1 loss in Houston. 

On March 31st in South Florida near his hometown, he came on in the 9th inning down 8-4 to the Marlins & gave up two more run in the loss. In the first week of April Young collected two holds. 

From April 2nd to April 15th, in five appearances he did not allow an earned run in four innings of work.

On April 20th, he allowed two runs but still got credit for the hold in the 7-4 win over the Cardinals. Young ended April with a 4.32 ERA.

Danny made two more relief appearances before going down with an elbow injury. After going on the 15-day IL he was placed on the 60-day IL requiring Tommy John surgery.

In ten games he collected four holds with a 4.32 ERA.

Career Stats: In his career he is 4-1 with a 4.01 ERA, 78 strike outs & 25 walks in 63 appearances.

Family: Danny is engaged to fiancée Sophia Ebihara who was also a cross-country runner at the University of Florida.
