Remembering Mets History (2015) Lucas Duda Ties Club Record With Seven Multi HR Games

In 2015 the Mets won the NL pennant getting to their fifth World Series. That season Met first baseman Lucas Duda tied a Mets team record with seven multi-HR games. Here's the happy recap of Duda's season:

May 21st, 2015: Terry Collins' second place Mets took on Mike Matheny's first place St. Louis Cardinals at Citi Field. Lucas Duda had the first of his seven multi-HR games on the year. Duda first homered against Jaime Garcia in the 6th inning, a solo shot. In the 9th he blasted a three-run shot off Randy Choate, icing the Jacob deGrom (eight inning) Jeurys Familia (one inning) 5-0 shut out.

Less than a week later, Duda had his second multi-HR game of the year. This came during a stretch from May 21st to May 30th where he hit six HRs while driving in ten runs.

May 27th, 2015: Tonight, the Mets (27-21) hosted Ryne Sandberg's lowly Philadelphia Phillies (19-29), already ten games out of first place.

In the 1st inning, Lucas Duda hit a two out, solo HR off Sean O'Sullivan. In the bottom of the 5th inning, he led off the inning crushing his second HR also coming off O'Sullivan.

Mets Rookie pitcher Noah Syndergaard also hit his first career HR in the game. Noah would coast shutting out the Phillies into the 8th inning, holding them to six hits while striking out six. Sean Gilmartin finished the eighth & Erik Goeddel closed out the 9th.

Saturday July 25th: Duda began a big stretch where in a course of eight games he hit 9 HRs & drove in 12 runs winning the NL Player of the Week Award.

On Saturday the second place Mets (25-27) hosted Don Mattingly's first place Los Angeles Dodgers (30-21) in what was a preview of that year's NLDS. Tonight, the Mets pounded the Dodgers 15-2 while smashing 21 hits. For Lucas Duda, he hit a pair of solo HRs, getting to 14 HRs on the year.

Kirk Nieuwenhuis had a four hit/four RBI night, Daniel Murphy homered & drove in three runs, Kelly Johnson also homered.

July 29th, 2015:
After already hitting three HRs that week, Duda had his biggest HR night of the year in this 7-3 loss to the San Diego Padres at Citi Field. The Padres collected four runs off Bartolo Colon early on.

In the bottom of the 2nd inning, Duda hit his first HR of the night, a solo shot off Tyson Ross. In the bottom of the 6th with the Mets down 7-1 Duda connected another solo shot, coming off Kevin Quakenbush. In the 9th Duda hit his third HR, lading off the inning against Marcus Mateo.

August 1st, 2015: The Mets hosted the first place Washington Nat's in a big series at Citi Field. The Mets were two games back of Washington & would sweep the series as they took over first place & remained there for good.

In the 4th inning, with the Mets down 2-0, Duda hit his 19th HR of the season, a solo shot off Joe Ross. In the 7th he connected off Ross again, tying up the game at two, with his 20th HR of the season. In the bottom of the 8th Duda's double scored Curtis Granderson with what was the Mets game winning run.

Duda would hit another HR the next night, a two-run shot helping lead the Mets to a 5-2-win capping off his big week.

Lucas Duda would miss some time in August due to a back injury. He would not hit another HR for a month in a half, coming on September 18th.

September 25th, 2015: On this night Duda had his biggest RBI night of the year, driving in six runs.

At this point Terry Collins Mets (87-67) were counting down to clinching the NL East with a magic number of two. The Mets were in Cincinnati having a big night as they beat the Reds 12-5, getting to within a game of their NL East Title. New York collected 14 hits on the night, with three HRs, two coming from Duda.

Lucas Duda had the biggest night of Mets batters & one of the biggest nights of his career. In the 3rd inning,
Daniel Murphy doubled & Yoenis Cespedes singled putting two men aboard for Duda. He then hit a three-run shot off Anthony DeSclafani for his 23rd HR of the season.

In the 7th with the Mets up 4-0, Duda came up with David Wright on board & Daniel Murphy who had just singled in Curtis Granderson. Duda hit his second three run HR of the night, this three-run shot off Tony Cingrani putting New York up 9-0. His six RBIs put him at 66 on the year.

September 29th, 2015:
The Mets (88-68) were the official NL East Champions, playing in Philadelphia against the last place Phillies (60-96). On this night the Mets took a 4-3 loss, but Lucas Duda tied a franchise record with his seventh multi-HR game of the year.

Duda first homered in the 4th inning, a solo shot off David Buchannon. He then hit his 27th of the season, a two-run shot off Ken Giles in the top of the 9th.

Lucas Duda joined former Mets sluggers Dave Kingman (1976) & Carlos Delgado (2008) as the only three Mets players to have seven multi-HR games in a season. Duda would finish the 2015 Mets Pennant season with 27 HRs on the year.
