Remembering Mets History (2007) David Wright Becomes First Met to Drive in 100 Runs Three Straight Seasons
September 19th, 2027: In 2005, David Wright's first full season, which was his second season in the big leagues he drove in 102 runs. He followed up in the Mets NL Eastern Title winning season on 2006, he drove in 116 runs.
In the top of the 2nd, Moises Alou singled then Jeff Conine doubles to left field. Paul LoDuca's sac fly scored Alou with the Mets first run.
In the bottom of the 2nd, the Nat's Ronnie Belliard doubled then Robert Fick singled putting two men on. Jesus Flores hit a slow grounder to David Wright at third allowing Belliard to score. Next Matt Chico's base hit scored Fick with the second run.
In the top of the 3rd inning, Jose Reyes led off with his 33rd double of the year. Next David Wright, stepped in batting .315 on the season. Wright singled into right field allowing Reyes to score easily. For Wright it was his 100th RBI of the season, making him the first player in franchise history to drive in 100 or more runs three straight seasons.
Entering tonight's game Wight had 99 RBIs. The Mets were on a five game losing streak, having lost five games in the standings over those days. The ship was sinking & they needed a win badly in the series finale in Washington D.C. to avoid getting swept by the Nat's.
The Mets sent Rookie Mike Pelfrey (3-7) to the mound to face Matt Chico (5-9). Pelfrey had started the year off at 0-7 then was sent back down to AAA Norfolk. Since returning from AAA Pelfrey was 2-0 with a 2.70 ERA in three games.

In the home 5th, the Nats tacked on a run getting to within one. In the top of the 6th, Moises Alou collected his third hit of the game with his 16th double of the year. Jeff Conine sacrificed him over to third, then Paul Loduca's second sac fly of the game made it a 5-3 game.
In the top of the 7th, Shawn Green led off with a base hit. Jose Reyes sacrificed him over to second. Next a Nat's throwing error led to Shawn Green scoring making it 6-3.
Mets RBI Trivia: Gary Carter (1985-1986), Darryl Strawberry (1987-1988) & Mike Piazza (1999-2000) had all driven in 100 or more runs in back-to-back seasons.
In the top of the 5th, Reyes collected his second hit of the game. After Luis Castillo tripled scoring Reyes, David Wright hit a sac fly to centerfield scoring Castillo with Mets fourth run 4-2. It was Wright's second hit & second RBI of the game.

Wright Trivia: For Wright it was his 51st multi-hit game of the year, his 12th game with three hits or more. He would have four more multi-three hit games on the season. Wright was on a six game hit streak, hitting safely in ten of his last eleven games. His hit streak would go for 17 games thru the end of the season.
Wright would finish 2007 with a career best 196 hits. He would have his only 30 HR 30 stolen base season as well. It was also Wright's 26th multi-RBI game of the year, his eighth game with three or more runs driven in.

Mets Blow the Divisional Title: After snapping the losing streak, the Mets took three of four from the Marlins in Florida. But then they lost six of their final seven games getting eliminated from post season play on the final day of the regular season.
On September 12th the Mets increased their lead over the Phillies to 7.5 games but had gone 5-12 the rest of the way with the Phillies going 13-4.
