It is with deep sadness that we say must say good bye to Tom Seaver upon his passing. Tom Seaver was my baseball hero, as a kid he was the reason, growing up in the Bronx, that I became a Mets fan. Seaver was the greatest of them all, the best pitcher of his generation & one of the best of all time. He made the Mets respectable, he made them winners. He was a class act that worked hard, gave it his all & demanded respect. He loved the fans as much as we loved him.  He led them to an Amazing World Series win in 1969, when they were the ultimate underdogs. Four years later, in 1973, he led them to another pennant, just falling short by one game of another Championship. This was the team I fell in love with. He won 311 career games, but rarely had the distinction of pitching on teams that scored him any runs. It was usually 2-1 or 1-0 victories. Tuesday -August 30th 2016: The previous night Yoenis Cespedes hit a dramatic walk off HR at Citi Field taking a page from his own book of a year ago. Cespedes helped the Mets take the first game of a big series with the Miami Marlins. The Mets were hot, winning eight of their last ten games, in the midst of a wild card race to the post season. The team that had been struggling with injuries all year. They had lost their Captain- David Wright, one of their sluggers Lucas Duda pretty much the entire season & one of their; Matt Harvey for the year. As of late, pitcher Steven Matz & second baseman Neil Walker out as well. On top of that,  Michael Conforto had struggled so much he was sent to the minor leagues. Friday August 22nd 1969: Gil Hodges second place Mets (69-52) were six games behind the Chicago Cubs. It was a big weekend at Shea Stadium, it always was when the old Dodger team returned to New York, even 11 years after leaving Brooklyn.  But what made this series even bigger was it meant something in the pennant race.  On this day the Dodgers were 1969 Mets dodgers in sole possession of first place, holding a half game lead over the Cincinnati Reds. The Giants were just one game out & the Atlanta Braves one game & half behind.  The stadium was packed, as 50,460 paid came out to Shea to see Jerry Koosman take on Bill Singer.
