Brandon Nimmo (Part Two) The Wild Card Seasons & Final Mets Season (2022- 2025)



2022:
  The Mets were an improved team & had high expectations going into the season. Nimmo was secured in the main centerfielder & leadoff man. Although he was a good lead hitter, he didn't steal any bases, which frustrated fans.

From April 11th to May 15th, he reached base in 26 straight games, including a career high eleven game hit streak.

On April 12th Nimmo hit a 5th inning HR off the Phillies Zack Wheeler in a 2-0 combined Mets shut out in Philadelphia. The next day he homered again in a 9-6 Mets win.

On April 25th, with the Mets down 2-0 in the top of the 9th inning in St. Louis, they started a five-run comeback with Nimmo topping it off with a two run HR off T.J. McFarland in the 5-2 win. In the April 29th Mets combined no hitter over the Phillies, Nimmo went 1-3 with a walk.

Seven Run Comeback: On May 5th, the Mets were down 7-1 to the Phillies in the top of the 9th inning when they began a dramatic season best seven run comeback. After the Mets scored four runs in the inning, Nimmo drove in two runs with a single off Corey Knebel tying up the game. Starling Marte doubled with Nimmo crossing the plate in the go-ahead winning run.

From May 5th to May 14th, Nimmo scored a run in seven of eight games with the Mets wining five
of them. On May 15th, Nimmo collected two hits driving in three runs in the Mets 8-7 loss to Seattle. It was the first of nine games he would reach the season high three RBIs in a game. He continued his hitting finishing up May batting .293. 

Multi- Three RBI GameOn June 10th, Nimmo homered off the Angels Andrew Waltz & then later hit a two run double leading the Mets to a 7-3 win. 

Multi Three RBI Games: On July 4th in Cincinnati, Nimmo hit his sixth HR of the season, a three-run shot off the Reds Hunter Green coming in a 7-4 Mets victory. 

Two days later he hit another three run HR in Cincinnati, coming in the 10th inning off the Reds Dauri Moreta in an eventual 8-3 Mets win. 

Nimmo drove in runs in the next two games with the Marlins at Citi Field as well.

On July 29th, in South Florida, Nimmo had his fifth muti- three RBI game of the season. In the
2nd inning in, he hit a two-run double off Sandy Alcantara putting the Mets on the board down 3-1. 

Nimmo later came to bat in the top of the 8th inning with the game tied & Eduardo Escobar on first base. He hit his tenth HR of the season, a two-run blast off Steve Okent leading the Mets to a 6-4 win. It was the second time in his career he passed the ten HR mark.

In the series finale, he had another multi-RBI game, driving in three runs for the sixth time of the year. In July Nimmo had ix games where he scored two runs or more.

Multi -Four Hit Game: On August 1st, in a 7-3 win in Washington, Nimmo had his only four hit game of the season. He collected three singles & a double in the game.

On August 21st, the Mets went into the top of the 9th inning down 8-7 to the Phillies at Citizens
Bank Park. Mark Canha tied the game with a HR, then two batters later Nimmo homered off Tyler Cyr in what turned out to be the games winning run. 

On August 27th, Nimmo led off a game with his 12th HR of the year, he later added an RBI double driving in two of the three runs of 3-0 David Peterson combined shut out over the Rockies at Citi Field.

On August 31st, in an important 2-1 victory over the Dodgers at Citi Field, Nimmo robbed Justin Turner of a 7th inning game tying HR. In the game he collected two hits scoring on Starling Marte's two run HR.


In the first ten games of September, Nimmo collected eleven hits, scoring seven runs with two HRs & nine RBIs. He also drew walks in four straight games.

The Mets started the month three games up in first place, but the lead dwindled down. On September 30th, they held a one game lead heading to Atlanta for a three-game set. In the disastrous series sweep they fell to two games back.

Nimmo collected a hit in each game of the three Mets losses. 

Multi- HR -Six RBI Twin Bill & Two More Multi- Three RBI Games: In an October 4th double header, Nimmo hit two HRs & collected six RBIs in the much-needed sweep of the Nationals. 

In the first game, Brandon had a 2nd inning two run double off Corey Abbott. In the 4th inning he hit his 15th HR of the season, also coming off Abbott.

He started out the second game of the double header with a lead off HR, his 16th HR of the season. Francisco Lindor & Jeff McNeil followed with what was back-to-back to back HRs. Later that inning he added a two-run single, in the Mets seven run inning. On the season he had nine games with three or more RBIs & 15 total multi-RBI games.

The Mets finished in a tie for first winning a wild card spot. On the year Nimmo led the NL in triples with seven. He batted .274 with a 
career high in doubles (30) & runs scored (102) hitting 16 HRs with 64 RBIs. He struck out 116 times walked 71 times posted a .367 on base % & .800 OPS.

In the outfield he had a perfect 1.000 fielding % leading all centerfielders in games (151). He was named the Mets Heart & Hustle Award winner for 2022.


2022 Post Season:
 In the NLWC series he hit batted .333 (4-12) in the loss to the Padres. In Game #1 Nimmo collected a triple in the 7-1 loss. In Game #2 he had three hits with a walk & an RBI single off Blake Snell.

Long Term Deal: In December the Mets gave him an eight-year $162 million contract.

2023: On Opening Day, Nimmo broke a 3-3 tie in the 7th inning with a double off Tanner Scott
leading the Mets to the 5-3 win. On April 7th he drew four walks & scored two walks in a 9-3 win over the Marlins at Citi Field. From April 12th to April 19th, he had three multi-hit games.

On April 19th, he hit a two run HR off former teammate Noah Syndergaard, now with the
Dodgers in a 5-3 win at Los Angeles.

On May 5th, Nimmo hit a 4th inning HR off the Rockies Antonio Senzatela in a 1-0 combined shut out led by Kodai Senga at Citi Field. 

On May 10th, he broke up a 1-1 tie with a 4th inning RBI single off the Reds Hunter Green in what was a 2-1 Mets win over the Reds. Nimo would keep his batting average up at .300 until the end of May.

The Mets had fallen below .500 & would never regain form as the season became a big disappointment.

Grand Slam HR: On June 5th, Nimmo hit his first career grand slam HR. It came off the Braves Spencer Strider in a wild 13-10 Mets loss in Atlanta.


Subway Series Walk Off Hit:
 In the June subway series, Nimmo led off with a HR off Luis Severino in a 7-6 Mets loss. The next day, with the Mets down 3-1 Nimmo was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the 7th inning starting a comeback. 

The Mets tied the game when Staling Marte singled in the next at bat. In the bottom of the 10th inning, Nimmo doubled off Nick Ramirez bringing home the walk off winning run.

Multi HR Game: On June 27th, he had the first of his multi-HR games coming in a 7-2 win over the Brewers. He led off the 4th inning with a solo shot off Julio Teheran & then hit a two-run shot in the 5th inning off Teheran as well.

On July 21st he hit a two-run 3rd inning HR at Fenway Park off Kutter Crawford, helping the
Mets & Kodai Senga in a 5-4 victory. Nimmo struggled thru the month seeing his average fall to .256

The Mets realized they were not going to compete & sold off the players who were not locked in for the long term.

On August 14 & 15th he had back-to-back HR games & would hit three in a five-game span with four RBIs. On September 1st, Nimmo helped Kodai Senga in another victory when he hit his 20th HR of the year in a 2-1 win over the Mariners at Citi Field.

Multi HR Game:
 On September 5th, Nimmo had his second multi-HR game of the season, with solo shots off the Nat's Patrick Corbin & Amos Willingham in an 11-5 victory in Washington.

On September 9th, Nimo hit his fifth lead off HR of the season, coming in a loss at Minnesota.

In the final eight games of the season, Nimmo drove in eight runs, collecting four doubles, a triple & a HR scoring seven runs.

On the season Nimmo had career highs in hits (162) HRs (24) RBIs (68) doubles (30) & games played (152). He batted .274 with six triples 89 runs scored 74 walks, a .363 on base % & .829 OPS.

In the outfield he posted a .989 fielding % with three assists making four errors in 340 chances.


2024 Mets Wild Card Season: In 2024 the Mets acquired Harrison Bader, a fine defensive centerfielder, as well as Tyrone Taylor. Nimmo made the move over to left field where he played 142 games (3rd most in the NL) with 202 put outs (5th most) making two errors, with four assists.

From April 6th to April 17th, Brandon drove in 15 runs in an eleven-game span.

Multi Four Hit, Multi- HR Game: On April 8th in Atlanta, with the Mets down 4-1 Nimmo hit a 5th inning three run HR off the Braves Charlie Morton tying up the game. Later in the 7th, with the Mets down by a run again, Nimmo hit a solo HR off A.J. Minter to tie up the game again. It was Nimmo's only multi-HR game of the year & the Five RBIs were also a season best.  

On April 14th, in a scoreless game against the Royals at Citi Field, Harrison Bader collected an infield single scoring the Mets first run. With the bases loaded Nimmo drew a walk bringing in what was the winning run in the 2-1 win.

Nimmo drove in 18 runs & scored 15 runs in April although he only batted .208. It was the kind of year he'd have more as a run producer that a batter hitting for average. 

On May 2nd, he drove in two runs staring up an eight-game win streak. 

HRs in Back-to-Back Games: On May 6th, in a tied score in St. Louis, Nimmo hit a 7th inning HR off Andrew Kittredge which was the games winning run. The next night, he tied up the game with a three run HR off the Cardinal's Miles Mikolas tying up the game in an eventual 7-4 Mets win.

Walk Off HR:
 On May 12th, the Mets & Braves went to the bottom of the 9th inning, down 3-2. Jeff McNeil led off with a single, two batters later Nimmo hit a walk off two run HR off A.J Minter for the win.

Runs Scored in 15 of 16 Games: In mid-June, Brandon got hot as did the Mets, during the Mets seven game win streak that turned their season around, he started ten game hit streak where he hit five five HRs & batted .415. He also had an eight-game streak where he would score at least one run. 

From June 13th thru July 1st, Nimmo scored at least one run in 15 of 16 games, with a total of 22 runs scored. In that time, he also batted .377 with six HRs & 20 RBIs.

HRs in Back-to-Back Games: In that span he hit HRs in consecutive games for the second time, coming in road trip to Texas. Also, from June 17th to June 25th he would hit five HRs in a seven-game span, collecting 11 RBIs while batting .357 as the Mets won five of those seven games.

Multi- Four RBI Game: On June 17th, in a 14-2 win in Texas, Nimmo had a multi- four RBI game, starting with an RBI single in the Mets six run 2nd inning. In the top of the 4h, he hit his eighth HR of the season, a two-run shot off Jon Gray. In the 5th inning, he added an RBI single for his third hit of the day.

The next night he hit his 9th HR of the season, coming in a 7-6 win over the Rangers as well. On that same road trip, he hit HRs in two of the three games at Wrigley Field.

On June 25th upon returning to New York, in the subway series at Citi Field, Nimmo hit a two run HR off Gerrit Cole putting the Mets up 6-0 in the eventual 9-7 Mets win. The next night in the series sweep, he went hitless but walked twice & scored two more runs.

In early-July Nimmo had another eight-game hit streak, from July 8th thru July 10th he also homered in three straight games driving in six runs. In a Mets series sweep over the Nationals at Citi Field, Brandon had two multi-Three RBI games. He closed out the month drawing at least one walk in ten of twelve games with 12 total walks.

In August he slumped batting just .228 with two HRs while driving in just seven runs & scoring ten. His only HR was a three-run shot coming off the Marlins George Soriano in a six-run 4th inning at Citi Field in a 7-3 Mets win. The three RBIs gave him 70 for the season giving him a new career high.

As September began, the Mets were playing the best baseball in the league, having gone 49-30 since June 1st when they were ten games under .500. In September Nimmo would only hit .190 but hit five HRs drove in 18 runs & scored 15 runs.

On September 13th in a big series opener in Philadelphia, Nimmo followed Francisco Alvarez
hitting the second three run HR of the inning off Aaron Nola 
in the Mets 11-3 win.

20th HR & Multi- Three RBI Games: From September 18th thru September 22nd, he drove in runs five straight games, with two straight multi- Three RBI games. On September 18th Nimmo hit his twentieth HR of the season, a three-run shot off the Nat's Jacob Barnes in a 10-0 Mets combined shut out from Jose Quintana, Phil Maton & Huascar Brazoban.

On September 19th, in a big three game series opener at Citi Field against the Phillies Nimmo hit a two run HR off former Met Taijuan Walker. 

In the Mets five run 4th inning, he added an RBI double off Jose Ruiz in the 10-6 Mets win. Nimmo collected four hits, with a double two HRs four runs scored & four RBIs in the Mets took three of four in the series.

On September 29th, in a 5-0 David Peterson, Phil Maton, Edwin Diaz combined shut out, Nimmo drove in the first run of the game with a 1st inning RBI base hit.


Mets Clinch Playoff Berth: On September 30th, the Mets played a makeup double header in Atlanta with each needing a win to secure a playoff spot. 

In the first game, the Mets were down 3-0 in the 8th inning when they collected six hits & scored six runs, with Nimmo topping off the scoring with a two run HR off Raisel Iglesias making it a 6-3 game. It was Nimmo's 90th RBI of the season.  

The Mets lost the lead when Edwin Diaz served up a three run HR to Ozzie Albies. In the top of the 9th, Starling Marte singled & Francisco Lindor hit a two run HR leading to the Mets win, clinching a playoff spot.

On the regular season, Nimmo hit .224 with 128 hits 25 doubles, three triples 23 HRs 88 runs scored (15th most in the NL) & 90 RBIs (14th most in the NL & second on the club to Francisco Lindor).

15 -15 Stolen Bases: Nimmo also stole a career high 15 stolen bases without getting caught. He is just one of 14 MLB players to ever steal 15 or more bases without getting caught. The only other Met to steal 15 or more bases without getting caught was Kevin McReynolds (1988). 

Nimmo led the team with walks (seventh most in the NL). He was hit by 12 pitches (8th most in the NL) posted a .327 on base % & .727 OPS. He also struck out a career high 158 times.

RISP: Nimmo batted .319 with runners in scoring position, ninth bets mark in the NL.

2024 Post Season- NLWC: In the NLWC series win over the Brewers Nimmo hit safely in all three games. In Game #1 Nimmo singled in the 5th inning & scored on J.D. Martinez two run single in the Mets five run 8th inning.

In the Game #2 loss, Nimmo hit a first inning single off Frankie Montas driving in the first run of the 5-3 loss.

In Game #3 with the Mets down 2-0 in the 9th inning, Francisco Lindor led off with a walk. With one out Nimmo singled to right field, he scored when Pete Alonso hit a three run go ahead HR that led the Mets to the 4-2 win advancing to the NLDS.

2024 NLDS:
 In the NLDS win over the Phillies, Nimmo hit .286 with multi-hit games in the first two games of the series. 

In Game #1 in Philadelphia Nimmo struck out against Zack Wheeler in his first at bat. In his next at bat he walked, then popped up.

In the 8th inning, with the Mets down 1-0, Mark Vientos tied the game with an RBI single. With the bases loaded Nimmo singled off Matt Stram putting the Mets ahead as Francisco Lindor scored. Nimmo would score later on J.D. Martinez's RBI single putting New York up 4-1. In the top of the 9th, with Harrison Bader on second, Nimmo singled off Tanner Banks bringing in the Mets sixth run. They won the opener 6-2.

In the Game #2 loss, he homered off Orion Kerkering & collected two hits, hitting safely in his fourth straight post season game.

In Game #3 at a wild Citi Field, he walked in the bottom of the 6th inning, then scored on Starling Marte's two run base hit, giving the Mets a 4-0 lead. They went on to a 7-2 win, taking two games to one lead. In the Game #4 series clincher he went 0-3 with a walk.


2024 NLCS:
 In the NLCS loss to the Dodgers, Nimmo batted .167 with four hits, three walks a run scored & two RBIs.

In the first two games Nimmo was 0-7 with a walk, striking out twice. In the Game #3 loss he collected his first series hit.

In the Game #4 loss at Citi Field, Nimmo collected two hits, with an RBI ground out in the 3rd inning off Yoshinobu Yamamoto. He singled to lead off the 6th inning as well. 

In the Mets 12-6 Game #5 win at Citi Field, he started out with a 1st inning walk, then scored on
Pete Alonso's three run HR. In the Mets five run 3rd inning, Nimmo singled off Jack Flaherty driving in Francisco Lindor for the Mets seventh run. In Game #6 he went hitless in the loss ending the Mets season.

In the 2024 post season, Brandon hit .220 with 11 hits, one HR, seven runs scored & six RBIs. He drew seven walks posting a .328 on base % & struck out .11 times.

2025: Nimmo began the season hitting safely in six of his first seven games.

HRs in Back to Back Games:
On April 11th & 12th in Sacramento, he hit HRs in back to back games with the Athletics.
 
Mets Franchise Record- Multi- Nine RBI Game: On April 28th, in D.C. the Mets put up a season high 19 runs, with Brandon having a record day, setting a new Mets franchise record with nine RBIs in the game & having a four hit game.

In the top of the 6th, Pete Alonso & Jesse Winker drew walks, then Brandon Nimmo blasted a long three run HR off Colin Poche up into the right field seats, giving the Mets a 6-0 lead. For Nimmo it was his 5th HR of the season & his first multi- Three RBI game since September 19th of 2024.

Trivia: Nimmo had come into the game batting just .192 with a .575 OPS. As SNY pointed out, since last year's All-Star break Nimmo was batting just .190, the lowest of any player with at least 350 at bats.

Grand Slam HR: In the top of the 7th, Francisco Lindor was hit by a pitch then Juan Soto doubled to left field. Pete Alonso singled to center field scoring Lindor, then Jesse Winker drew a walk to load the bases. With one out, Brandon Nimmo hit his second HR of the game, this one a grand slam off Cole Henry giving him seven RBIs on the day. For Nimmo it was his second career grand slam & the seventh multi-HR game of his career. The seven RBIs were a career high up to that point joining 12 other Mets players who have accomplished that milestone.

Nimmo Ties Mets Single Game RBI Record: In the top of the 8th, Pete Alonso & Jesse Winker singled, Mark Vientos then walked to load the bases. Brandon Nimmo stepped in & doubled down the line with the ball bouncing off the stands. Alonso & Winker both scored giving the Mets a 13-0 lead as Nimmo tying a Mets franchise record with a multi-nine RBI game. In 2008 Carlos Delgado had a nine RBI with a grand slam, three run HR & two run double in a subway series 15-6 win in the Bronx.


In mid to late May he was moved up into the number two spot of the batting order, although he did not stay in that spot all season it was his best placing as he hit .323 in the slot. While batting clean up he hit seven HRs & drove in 24 runs but hit an overall .238.

Multi- HR Game: On June 11th in David Peterson's complete game six hit shut out over the Nationals at Citi Field, Nimmo hit two solo HRs, coming off Jake Irvin & Jackson Rutledge. It was his second multi- HR game of the year. The next night in a 4-3 Mets win, he homered off Michael Soroka, having consecutive HR Games for the second time on the season.

Multi- HR Game: On June 21st in an 11-4 win at Philadelphia Brandon hit a pair of solo HRs off Mike Abel for his third multi- HR game of the year.

Grand Slam HR: On July 2nd at Citi Field, in the night cap of a double header split with the Brewers, Nimmo hit his second grand slam of the season, the third of his career with the blast coming off Jacob Misiorowski in the bottom of the 2nd inning.

HRs in Back-to-Back Games: The next night he homered off Jose Quintana in the 2nd inning, giving him 17 on the season, having consecutive HR games for the third time on the year.


Third Grand Slam of Season:
On July 5th in a subway series win at Citi Field, Starling Marte led off with a double, Francisco Lindor & Pete Alonso then drew walks. Nimmo came up & hit his second grand slam of the week, coming in the 1st inning off Carlos Rendon. It was his third granny of the season & fourth of his career.

From July 20th thru the 25th, Nimmo drove in runs in five straight games, collecting six RBIs n tat time. On July 22nd, his 5th inning RBI single off Kyle Hendricks broke a 2-2 tie putting the Mets ahead for good in the 3-2 win. That month he collected eight multi- hit games & would have seven multi-hit games in each of the next two months. 

Multi- Three RBI Game: On August 2nd at Citi Field, Nimmo collected three RBI singles as he drove in three runs in the 12-6 win over the GiantsOn August 12th at Citi Field, he hit a three run HR off the Braves Spencer Strider in a 13-5 Mets win, giving him his sixth game of the season with three or more runs driven in.

From August 25th thru the 29th, Nimmo had three multi-RBI games with nine RBIs in a five game stretch.

Walk Off Hit: On August 26th, with the score tied at 5-5 with the Phillies & the bases loaded with nobody out, Nimmo hit a walk off game winning RBI single off Jhoan Duran leading the Mets to victory. It was just the Mets fourth walk off win of the season.

Multi- HR/ Four RBI Game: On August 29th, in a 19-9 win over the Marlins at Citi Field he had his fourth multi-HR game of the season. In the bottom of the 1st, Nimmo hit a three run HR off Eury Perez then in the 6th inning hit a solo shot off Valente Bellozo. 


On September 18th at Citi Field, Brandon hit his 24th HR of the season, matching his personal career high set two seasons ago, the three run shot came off Wandy Peralta leading to a 6-1 win.

25th HR & Multi- Three RBI Game: On September 23rd, in an important series opener at Wrigley Field in the heat of the wild card race, the Mets put up two runs in the top of the 6th inning but were still down 6-3 to the Cubs. With Pete Alonso & Juan Soto aboard, Nimmo hit a three run HR off Taylor Rogers tying up the game which New York went on to win 11-7.  

It was his 25th HR of the season setting a new career high. He also set a new season high in RBIs with 91. The Mets took two of three in the series, with Nimmo having his eighth multi-three hit game of the season in the series finale.

In 2025 Nimmo hit a career best 25 HRs (fourth most on the club) with 17 of his HRs coming off right handed pitching. He also set a career high with 92 RBIs (third best on the team). Nimmo hit .262 with 27 doubles 81 runs scored & 13 stolen bases in 14 attempts. He struck out 141 times walked 50 times & posted a.324 on base % & .760 OPS.

After the season the Mets traded Nimmo to the Texas Rangers or Marcus Semien in a deal that made no sense. It was heartbreaking for fans to have one of the core players of the team dealt away, making it tough for this writer to root for them on 2026.

Mets Career Stats:
 In his ten-year Mets career he ranks high in many franchise categories. He played in 1066 games (11th on Mets all time list). Nimmo has 974 hits (12th on Mets all time list) batting .262 with 135 HRs (9th on Mets all time list) 188 doubles (10th on all time Mets list) 32 triples 593 runs scored (6th on Mets all time list) & 463 RBIs (12th on all time Mets list). 

Nimmo struck out 974 times (3rd on Mets all time list), was hit by 87 pitches, drew 524 walks (5th on all time Mets list), posted a .364 on base % & .802 OPS (17th on all time Mets list). Nimmo also has 54 career stolen bases.

The all-around outfielder played 1000 outfield games 551 in center, 449 games in left & 93 in right field. He has 27 assists, posted a .993 fielding % making 14 errors in 2009 chances.

Family: Brandon met Chelsea Bradley while playing for the Savannah Sand Gnats in 2013. In 2015 the two were engaged. In November 2017 they were married in Savannah, Georgia. 

Chelsea is a former professional softball player. She earned a BS in nursing from Valdosta State
University in Georgia. He was an emergency room nurse who has worked at Elmhurst Hospital in Queens. She also is a nurse who provides home IV therapy. The couple are registered Republicans & devout Christians. 
They have a pet dog.

In November 2024 the Nimmo's had their first child, a daughter Tatum Jane.

Hobbies: Nimmo is an avid fisherman who enjoys shark fishing best of all. He also plays golf.
