Remembering Mets History (1999) Mets Tie a Club Record at that Time with Six HRs
Tuesday June 15th, 1999: Bobby Valentine's second place Mets (34-30) were in Cincinnati to play Jack McKeon's third place Reds (32-28).
A crowd of 18,248 came to Cinergy Field to see the Mets Rick Reed face off with the Reds Brett Tomko.
Reds Ball Park Trivia: Cinergy Field was the same ballpark previously named Riverfront Stadium where the Big Red Machine won back-to-back World Championships in 1975 & 1976 then adding a third World Series victory in 1990. In 1999 it was remanned Cinergy Field thru the 2002 season. In 2003 they began play at the new Great American Ballpark.
The Mets came into the game winning six of their last eight games. Tonight's win would start another four-game win streak, as well as a streak of nine wins in the next ten games. From June 6th to June 25th, they would go 16-3.
Rick Reed held the Reds scoreless thru the first four innings.
In the top of the 7th inning, with RedS pitcher Jason Bere now pitching, the Mets would send nine men to the plate score five runs with four hits & another HR. To start the inning, Rickey Henderson hit his second HR of the night his fifth of the year. Henderson had his second multi-HR game of the season & the 12th of his career.

The two teams would end the regular season in a tie for the wild card spot. The Mets would win a one game tie breaker & advance to the post season.
Rickey Henderson Trivia: For Henderson it was his 74th lead off HR. He holds the MLB record with 81 HRs from the leadoff spot.
After Brett Tomko walked Edgardo Alfonzo, John Olerud & Mike Piazza followed with back-to-back HRs putting the Mets quickly ahead 4-0. For Jon Olerud it was his 11th HR of the year. For Mike Piazza he was leading the club with his 14th HR.

In the top of the 5th inning, with one out, Edgardo Alfonzo connected with his 9th HR of the year making it a 5-1 Mets lead as they had hit four HRs on the night.
In the bottom of the 5th, Pokey Reese hit a double then scored on Michael Tucker's base hit.
In the top of the 6th inning, the Mets Matt Franco hit the clubs fifth HR of the evening, a solo shot making it 6-1 New York. For Franco it was the third of four HRs he would hit on the season.

Mets Trivia: The Henderson HR was the Mets sixth of the night, tying a Mets franchise record (at that time) set on Opening Day April 4th, 1988. In that game Darryl Strawberry & Kevin McReynolds hit two HRs each, with Kevin Elster & Lenny Dykstra also hitting long balls in the 10-6 win at Montreal.
Edgardo Alfonzo then walked & Jon Olerud singled to centerfield with his second hit of the game.
Mike Piazza flew out to center & Brian Mcrae struck out. Now with two outs, Matt Franco collected his second hit & second RBI of the game, singling into right field bringing home Edgardo Alfonzo.
Roger Cedeno had himself a multi-three hit night, as he doubled scoring Olerud & Franco giving the Mets a 10-1 lead. Rey Ordonez then drove a base hit to center scoring Cedeno with Mets 11th run of night capping off the five-run inning.
The Mets went on to an 11-3 victory. Rick Reed was the winner going eight innings allowing two runs on eight hirs. Pat Mahomes finished off the game allowing a run in the 9th.
Mets Trivia: On April 19th, 2005, the Mets would hit seven HRs in a game setting a new record. Jose Reyes & Carlos Diaz would both hit two HRs each, as David Wright, Mike Piazza & Doug Mientkiewicz also hit one each.
On August 25th, 2015, the Mets led by Terry Collins would set a new franchise record with eight HRs in a game, as David Wright, Juan Lagares, Wilmer Flores, Travis D'Arnaud, Michael Cuddyer, Daniel Murphy & Yoenis Cespedes all homered in the 16-7 win in Philadelphia.
