Mid Eighties AAA Tidewater Tide & Short Time Met: Steve Springer (1992)

Steven Michael Springer was Born on February 11, 1961 in Long Beach, California. Springer attended the University of Utah The six foot infielder was drafted by the New York Mets in the 20th round of the 1982 draft. 

Springer then spent seven years in the Mets organization, playing at AAA Tidewater from 1985-1988 before he was traded to the Chicago White Sox.

By 1990 he signed with the Cleveland Indians and got to the big leagues debuting on May 22nd 1990 playing at third base getting is first career hit. He would only play in four games before going back down to AAA Vancouver on June 4th.

 In December 1991 he signed on with the Mets as a free agent. In the last season of the Tidewater Tides he hit .290 leading the club with 16 HRs & 70 RBIs. The Mets called him up on August 15th & he pinch hit in a home game against the Philadelphia Phillies.

 Springer only played in four career Mets games, getting his only start on August 25th 1992 going 2-3 with a double playing second base in a 2-1 Mets win at San Francisco. Springer played at AAA Norfolk in their inaugural season, batting .267 with 13 HRs 69 RBIs. 

He played in the minors hrough 1995 finishing a 14 year minor league career batting .274 with 128 HRs 280 doubles & 770 RBIs in 1591 games played.

Retirement: After his playing days he became a player agent & has been a scout for the Toronto Blue Jays since 2008. Springer is the creator of the Quality At Bat instructional video series and also gives baseball clinics on the West Coast.
