Remembering Mets History: (2016) Yo's Grand Slam Leads Mets to Victory & Lead In 2nd Wild Card Spot In Turner Field Farewell

Sunday September 11th, 2016: On this warm sunny afternoon, the Mets & Atlanta Braves held a pre game ceremony honoring the 15th Anniversary of the September 11th attacks, in the Mets last visit ever to a place called Turner Field. The Braves will open a new ballpark next season.

Terry Collins Mets took the field today after a tough extra inning loss to Atlanta last night, snapping their win streak. The Mets were still winners of 15 of their last 20 as they continue to fight for a wild card spot in the post season.

The team leader just like last year is Yoenis Cespedes, today in the 3rd inning he blasted a grand slam HR to put the Mets up 5-0. It was Yo's 30th HR of the year, his second grand slam of the season & the fourth Granny of his career. In the 1st inning he grounded out but brought in Asdrubal Cabrera who had just tripled, in with the first run.

Cespedes has now driven in at least one run in each of the last five games with 3 HRs & 9 RBIs total. After the game he chose not to talk to the media, instead he's letting his bat do the talking!

Yo Trivia: Since returning from the DL, he is hitting .308 with 8 HRs & 19 RBIs (20 games).

Quotes: Terry Collins: If he’s getting hot, he’s getting hot at the right time, This is a big stretch for us. He wants to win, I can tell you that. This guy wants to win”

In the 4th James Loney added a solo HR, his 7th HR of the year, to make it 6-0. The Mets tacked on four more runs in the 5th inning, with RBI hits from Kelly Johnson, Alejandro De Aza, another from Loney & a sac fly RBI from pitcher Seth Lugo.

The Mets run support helped Lugo go to 4-2 with a 2.40 ERA, as he continues to be a pleasant surprise after getting a shot with all the Mets pitching injuries.

The Mets took advantage of a Cardinals loss today, giving them a half game lead in the second wild card spot. It's on to DC for three next.

Trivia: As the Mets say good riddance to Turner Field, a place that tortured them back in the Braves hey day, they go out winning 11 of their last 14 games there!!
