Remembering Mets History: (2015) Mets Sweep Braves During Seven Game Win Streak

Sunday September 13th 2015: As Terry Collins first place Mets were going for the sweep at Turner Field in Atlanta, trying to maintain their 9 1/2 game lead in the NL East, many of the regulars got a day off to rest.

It was to be another day where everyone contributes & the Mets were to rally in what has become a routine but new way for them.

The Mets went on the board first as Michael Conforto hit a two run HR, his 7th of the year. Mets starter Jonathon Niese who has been horrible lately did an ok job today, six innings, three runs on eight hits and left in a tie game. The Mets went ahead in the 7th as Kevin Plawecki & Curtis Granderson had RBI base hits.

In the 9th Braves reliever Cameron Maybin struck out Ruben Tejada & Kevin Plawecki, as the Mets went down to their last out. With two outs Juan Lagares doubled to center field, a pitching substitution brought in Ryan Kelly, soon to be another Brave bullpen victim, Curtis Granderson then drew a walk & Daniel Murphy delivered with a three run game tying HR. It was Murph's 11th round tripper on the year.

In the top of the 10th, the Mets heroics continued, once again with two outs. After Juan Uribe popped out, Yoenis Cespedes who had the day off came in to pinch hit, somehow the Braves shut him down as he struck out. But then Kirk Nieuwenhuis walked, Ruben Tejada singled to right and Kevin Plawecki reached on a force play. The play was reviewed and the call was safe & Nieuwenhuis scored the go ahead run.

Lagares then walked to load the bases. Next Curtis Granderson walked for the 83rd time this season & Tejada scored. The Braves changed pitchers but new hurler Danny Burawa walked Muph making it 10-7.

Bobby Parnell made his return to the mound, not having pitched since September 1st & only twice in over three weeks. He threw a scoreless 9th inning & to the10th ending up being the pitcher of record recording his 2nd win of the year (2-3). Addison Reed came on for the save his 4th of the year.

The Mets swept a four game series for the first time since 1985. After so many bad series at Turner Field it was such a pleasure to see the Mets beat up the Atlanta club that has now lost 12 straight home games. The Mets have now won seven straight, their fourth win streak of at least seevn games this year. It is also the third seven game win streak since August 1st!  The Mets magic number was down to 11 to clinch the division.
