Jared Young: Mets DH- Utility Player (2025)
Jared Michael Young was born July 9th, 1995 in British Colombia Canada. The six foot-two first baseman, outfielder bats left & throws right.
Young first attended Minot State & Connors State Universities. He then attended Old Dominion University playing for the Monarchs earning All American Third Team honors. In 2017 he was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 15th round.
MLB Career: On September 16th, Young made his debut collecting a double in his fourth career at bat in a 2-1 win over the Rockies. He collected a double the next game as well, hitting safely in five of the six games he played in.
On June 28th Young was back with the Cubs & hit his first career HR coming off the Phil's Aaron Nola in an 8-5 loss at Wrigley Field. Young would drive in runs in his first three games, having his first multi-RBI game while collecting four hits in that time.
On September 22nd, Young had hit his HR with a two run shot off the Rockies Gavin Hollowell for his second multi-RBI game. At the end of July he was hitting .171 & was sent back down returning as a late September callup. On the season he hit two HRs with eight RBIs batting .186.
In November he was placed on waivers & claimed by the St. Louis Cardinals where he played 22 games at their AAA Memphis team.
KBO RBI Record: In July 2024 he moved on to the KBO League in South Korea.
KBO Record: On July 31st, he tied a KBO record for most RBIs in a game (8) by a foreign player. In the game he collected five hits with two HRs. On the season he hit .326 with 10 HRs.
Three time Teammate of Jared Young: Before playing in Korea his agent gave him the number of pitcher Brandon Waddell who had been pitching there for three years. Waddell helped Young adjust to the city & the way of life in that country. Waddell's girlfriend & Brandon's wife Maddy, became close friends going on tourists trips as well as shopping together while the guys were playing baseball.
In 2024 both players would get signed by the Mets, becoming teammates at AAA Syracuse then getting called up at the same time to the big league club.

Mets Career: In December he signed a one year deal with the New York Mets & began the season at AAA Syracuse.
On May 24th, Young was brought up to the Mets when Brandon Nimmo got injured, getting the start at DH going 0-1 & getting hit by a pitch in a 5-2 win over the eventual back-to-back World Champion Dodgers. Young also scored his first Mets run coming in on Bret Baty's RBI single.
On May 27th, Jared hit a 1st inning, two run HR off the White Sox Jonathan Cain, then collected a double in his next at bat in a 6-4 win over the White Sox at Citi Field.
On June 7th, he hit his second HR coming in a 8-1 win over the Rockies at Coors Field. Pitching Debut: On June 17th, he was brought in to pitch in the 9th inning of a 9-0 loss to the Rays at Citi Field. He faced three batters giving up a single, a walk then retiring Kameron Misner for the final out.On June 21st, in an 11-4 win at Philadelphia Jared hit an 8th inning solo HR off Michael Mercado, one of six Mets HRs on the night.
At the end of June he was batting just .171 & was sent down to AAA Syracuse.
In July he was brought up again when Jesse Winker went down with another injury.
On July 13th in Kansas City, Young came in as a 9th inning pinch hitter tying up the game with the Royals with a sac fly. The Mets lost the game in the bottom of the 9th. Young was sent back down then returned as a September callup. On September 6th, Young homered in a 6-3 loss at Cincinnati.
On the season he hit .186 with four HRs & six RBIs playing in 22 games. He played 14 games at DH, seeing action at first base, outfield & pitching.
