Chris Devenski: Mets Relief Pitcher (2025)
Christopher Michael Devenski was born in Cerritos, California. Chris has a twin sister named Amanda. Their parents Mike & Shirley own a moving company in the Santa Anna area. His father & baseball saved Chris from a neighborhood that began to see more gang activity including his close friends.
The six foot three right hander attended Cal State University where he played short stop & pitched for the Titans baseball team.
In 2011 he was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 25th round. In 2012 he was traded to the Houston Astros organization as a player to be named later in the Brett Meyers deal.
In 2016 he began his MLB career, coming in fourth in the NL Rookie of the Year voting. Devenski pitching five seasons with the Houston Astros winning a World Series title & two pennants.
Trivia: In Houston the fans knew him by his nickname "Devo".
In 2017 he made the NL All Star team, going an overall 8-5 with 25 holds posting a 2.68 ERA.
2017 Post Season: In the ALDS win over Boston he made three appearances but had a rough Game #3 giving up three runs in the 10-3 loss. In the ALCS win over the AL NY team he collected two holds.
2017 World Series: In the 2017 World Series win over the Dodgers, Devenski made five appearances, earning the victory in Game #2 at Dodger Stadium. In the top of the 10th after the Dodgers tied up the game 5-5 he closed out the inning. In the 11th George Springer's two run HR would be the game winning runs even though Devenski gave up a solo HR to Charlie Culberson in the bottom of the inning.
In Game #5, Chris blew a three run lead in the top of the 9th inning, with a two run HR to Yasiel Puig & An RBI single from Chris Taylor. He got off the hook for the loss on Alex Bergman's walk off RBI single. In the final Game #7 he retired Puig to end the 5th inning, the only atter he faced in the Series clincher.
Chris spent five seasons with Houston, going 16-16 with seven saves & a 3.35 ERA in 225 appearances. He then pitched parts of two seasons with Arizona, then on August 27th, 2022 the D-backs released him & he signed with the Phillies. Devenski then pitched with the Angels & Tampa Rays.
Mets Career: In October 2024, Devenski signed with the New York Mets.Devenski started the season at AAA Syracuse & was called up at the end of April. On April 30th, Devenski made his debut, coming in the top of the 9th inning down 2-1 to Arizona. He quickly gave up two runs finishing off the eventual 4-3 loss the D-backs. Devenski would make eleven appearances posting a 2.84 ERA striking out nine batters in 12.2 innings collecting two holds.
On July 22nd he was designated for assignment, cleared waivers then resigned with New York returning to AAA Syracuse.
Chris made two more appearances for the Mets, ending the season with 13 appearances a 2.16 ERA finishing off seven games. At the end of the season he elected free agency.
Career Stats: In a ten year career Devenski is 27-22 with eight saves a 3.91 ERA, 429 K's 116 walks in 416.2 innings. He has made 316 appearances finishing off 76 games.
