Remembering Mets History (2016): Curtis Granderson's Two Walk Off HR Games

Friday, May 27th 2016: A large crowd of 43,462 showed up at Citi Field to see the reigning NL Champion Mets (28-19) host Dave Roberts' Los Angeles Dodgers (25-24) in a rematch of the previous years NLCS.

On the mound Jacob deGrom going for his fourth win against one loss, facing off against Julio Urias.

Starting Lineups





wThe Mets attacked starter Julio Urias in the 1st inning, after Asdrubal Cabrera doubled & reached third on a wild pitch, Yoenis Cespedes then walked. Neil Walker doubled & Juan Lagares singled driving in runs, making it 3-0 Mets.

In the 3rd Public Enemy #1 & the mosted hated man in Citi Field, Chase Utley drove in a run with a sac fly. In the 4th David Wright hit a solo HR making it 4-1 Mets. Juan Lagares added a solo HR in the 5th making it 5-1 Mets.

With a four run lead in the 9th inning, Jeurys Familia had a nightmare of an inning. Back to back singles from Adrian Gonzales & Howie Kendrick started it off. Yasiel Puig the hit a weak single to load the bases. Familia then walked Yasmani Grandal bringing in a run.

Who else but Chase Utley then hit a two out double to tie the game, sucking the wing out of the Citi Field faitful.

In the bottom of the 9th, Curtis Granderson led off with his 9th HR of the season, the game winning HR off reliever Pedro Baez giving the Mets a 6-5 win. The win gave the Mets a six of seven winning week.





Saturday, September 17th 2016: As Terry Collins Mets were nestled in second place nine games back, a divisional title was not likely, but they were right atop the hunt for the wild card spot.

On this evening, the Mets (79-69) hosted Paul Molitor's Minnesota Twins (55-94).



Starting Lineups





The Twins took an early lead as Eddie Rosario hit a solo HR off Seth Lugo. It would be all Lugo would allow in five innings of work. Josh Smoker, Fernando Salas, Jerry Blevins, Addison Reed,, Jeurys Familia, Hansel Robles & Josh Edgin would all combine for seven more innings of scoreless pitching.
In the home 8th, Jose Reyes singled and then advanced on a wild pitch.  Yoenis Cespedes the tied up the game with a line drive hit up the middle.

The Twins relievers held the Mets down until the 12th inning. Minnesota's Ryan O'Roarke came in for relief with two outs, Curtis Granderson greeted him with a walk off HR down the right field line. It was Granderson's 28th HR of the year & his second walk off HR of the season.
