Adonis Medina: Former Mets Relief Pitcher (2022)

 Adonis Medina Del Rosario was born December 18th, 1996, in Santa Domingo, Dominican Republic. At age 18 the right-handed pitcher was signed by the Philadelphia Phillies. He spent five years in the Phillies minor leagues before making the big leagues.

MLB Career: On September 20th of the 2021 Covid-19 shortened season, he made his MLB debut, taking a loss to the Toronto Blue Jays. He spent most of 2021 at AAA Leigh High Valley, going 4-5 with a 5.05 ERA. He got a September call up seeing action in four games allowing three runs in 7.2 innings for a 3.52 ERA.

In Spring Training of 2022, he was signed by the Pittsburgh Pirates but on April 7th, the Mets purchased his contract.

Mets Career- 2022: Medina made his Mets debut on April 23rd, finishing off a 5-2 loss at Arizona. He would spend time going back & forth from AA Syracuse where he pitched in 18 games & the Mets all season.

Mets Seven Run Comeback: On May 5th, he relieved Chasen Shreve in the 6th inning at
Philadelphia with the Mets down 7-1. Medina pitched 2.2 scoreless innings, allowing one hit with a strike out. The Mets had incredible seven run 9th inning to win the game 8-7, with Medina earning the victory.

On May 21st in the second game of a twin bill in Colorado he allowed a season high five runs, on six hits in a 11-3 Mets loss. 

Later in the year on September 3rd, his final appearance he once again gave up five runs, this time to the Nationals in a 7-1 loss. Both times he got no decision.

On June 5th, he pitched the bottom of the 10th inning in Los Angeles earning his only save in a 5-4 win over the Dodgers. He ended the game striking out Will Smith the tying run on second base.

In most of his opportunities he pitched pretty well thru the summer months as the Mets enjoyed staying atop the NL East. 

On September 6th, he was designated for assignment, cleared waivers & was sent back to AAA Syracuse. He chose free agency at the end of the season, signed with the Milwaukee Brewers but was released in December. 

Medina made 14 appearances for the 2022 Mets, going 1-0 with a save, six games finished & a 5.35 ERA. He struck out 17 & walked six in 35.1 innings of work.

Korean Baseball League: In 2023 he pitched for the Kia Tigers going 2-6 in 12 starts. He was released in July.
