Mets Name Carlos Beltran Manager for 2019

The Mets have named Carlos Beltran the 22nd Manager in team history.

He is also the ninth man to have been both a player & manager with the Mets. (Gil Hodges, Yogi Berra, Joe Torre, Bud Harrelson, Roy McMillian, Mike Cubbage, Dallas Green, Bobby Valentine & Willie Randolph).

Beltran had only interviewed for one job this off season & that was for the Mets manager. The Wilpons chose Beltran, even though he has no managerial or coaching experience at any level.

Quotes- Mets GM, Brodie Van Wagenen: " We are very excited to bring Carlos on board as our next manager & reintroduce him to Mets fans next week".

Beltran spent seven years with the Mets batting .280 with 878 hits 149 HRs 208 doubles 17 triples 559 RBIs 100 stolen bases & a .369 on base %. He was there as the Mets turned around from a bad team of the post 2000 NL Championship to a mid 2000's underachieving powerhouse. Winning one divisional title, with Carlos taking a called third strike to end the series, with the winning runs on base. Then that Mets team missed the playoffs on the last day of the season in each of the next two seasons.

Quotes- Carlos Beltran: "I feel like I played long enough to learn the game & I do feel that I have a lot of things to contribute in the clubhouse. Yes, the experience is not there because I have not done it, but I do believe it's something that with the opportunity, I can learn."
