The Phillies would score first on RBIs by Juan Samuel, a ground out & a base hit coming in the 3rd & 4th innings respectively. In the Mets 4th, Darryl Strawberry doubled & scored easily on Gary Carters base hit. In the 6th inning, Straw walked & then Carter connected for a two run HR, putting New York ahead 3-2. It was his tenth HR of the year.
The Phillies battled back, eventually taking the lead 4-3 heading into the bottom of the 8th inning. With Steve Bedrosian on the hill, Gary Carter greeted him with his second HR of the night, a solo shot, The Kid's eleventh HR of the year.
Doug Sisk & Roger McDowell blanked the Phils to the 11th inning. The Phils brought in Randy Lerch to pitch. Ray Knight led off with a base hit & then Barry Lyons & Len Dykstra were both walked to load the bases.
Tom Hume was brought into pitch & Davey Johnson called upon Tim Teufel to pinch hit for Wally Backman, liking the matchup.
Teufel certainly made his Manager proud, delivering a walk off Grand Slam HR, exciting the Shea Stadium crowd to another dramatic 1986 victory. It was his second HR of the year.
