Todays game featured a couple of career mile stones for two Mets players.
Charlie Leibrandt & David Cone matched zeros until the top of the 5th inning. Bobby Bonilla singled & Eddie Murray doubled, Bonilla of course didn't score.
Then Howard Johnson came up & doubled bringing in both runners making it 2-0. Johnson then stole third base and would add another steal later in the 9th inning.
The mile stone stolen bases put him at 200 steals for his career, making him the 16th player in MLB history to have 200 HRs & 200 stolen bases. In 1989 he had joined Willie Mays & Bobby Bonds as the only players at that time to have multi year 30 HR/ 30 stolen base seasons.
Later in the game, in the 8th inning Eddie Murray had his own career mile stone. Murray would hit a solo HR off Marvin Freeman marking the 400th HR of his Hall of Fame career.
The Mets also got RBI's in the game from David Cone, Willie Randolph & Darryl Boston. Cone went to 3-1 earning a five hit 7-0 shut out where he struck out eight, walking four.
1992 would be a bad year for the Mets, after signing high pried free agent duds like Bonilla, Vince Coleman & Bret Saberhagen, the team was dubbed the worst team money could buy as they finished two games out of last place 75-87.
