The veteran Granderson has had a strange year, batting just .221 with only 51 RBIs he does have 28 HRs. Tonight he went into the Mets record books as he became the first Mets player in club history to hit a game-tying homer and a walk-off homer in extra innings. He is just the second player in MLB history to accomplish the feat as well.
With all the injuries to Mets players this season, on the same night the Mets learned Jacob deGrom is done for the year, Granderson stepped up and helped his team tie for the lead wild card spot. Granderson has played a team best 138 games this season, and through his struggles still comes to play 100% every day. This year there are lots of new faces since last years NL Championship, mostly because of injuries, but Granderson a team leader last year has stepped up in the Mets 2016 late pennant push.
Quotes: Curtis Granderson- "To pick up the victory is obviously a good thing for us. We've just got to continue to keep winning ballgames regardless of who the opponent is or how we end up winning it. We win games, we get a chance to get into the postseason. That's just the simple of it, and it's going to be tough all the way down to the end. The way you have to look at it is no matter what's happened each day, there's always a chance that something good can happen. Regardless of who we're playing, who's pitching, what they've done previously, all that has to be thrown out the window, because today anything and everything can happen."
Yoenis Cespedes got the Mets to tie the game earlier as he drove in Jose Reyes with a base hit. The Mets used eight pitchers as Seth Lugo had another good outing, one run in five innings & Josh Edgin getting the win.
With the Giants losing to the St. Louis Cardinals the Mets are now tied for the lead wild card spot. In the event of a tie the Mets have the tiebreaker advantage!
