Terry Collins' New York Mets (48-51) were on the road visiting Arizona to face Kirk Gibson's third place D-backs (49-50) in front of 22,010 at Chase Field.

In the top of the 1st, the Mets gave Harvey some support as Ruben Tejada & Daniel Murphy both singled. Scott Hariston then doubled home both runs, giving Harvey a 2-0 cushion.
Harvey began his career striking out Gerado Parra for strike out number one. After a fly out & a hit by Jason Kubel, he closed out the inning striking out Paul Goldschmidt.
In the 2nd inning, Harvey came to bat & in his MLB debut he doubled off the wall to deep left center field. Harvey would collect a single in his second at bat in the 4th inning as well.
In the 2nd he struck out Justin Upton to start the inning & then Stephen Drew for the second out. In the 3rd after a ground out, Harvey struck out Para once again but a wild pitch made him safe at first.
With two one, Harvey struck out Kubel & then Goldschmidt looking to end the threat. He now had seven strike outs through three innings.
In the top of the 4th, Andres Torres tripled & was brought home by catcher Rob Johnson on a sac fly.
Juston Upton went down to lead off the 4th inning, in the 5th Harvey struck out Wade Miley to start the inning & then Allen Hill to end the inning. Harvey was now up to ten strike outs & was very impressive.
In the 6th, Harvey walked Kubel but then struck out Goldschmidt for K number 11. This set a Mets club record for strike outs in a pitching debut.
After a walk to Justin Upton, Terry Collins lifted the young pitcher. He walked off earning the win, pitching 5.1 innings allowing no runs, on three hits, with three walks & eleven strike outs.
It was the start of a brilliant career for a fine young pitcher who is destined to be one of the franchise's best ever.
