Scott Logan Verrett was born June 19th 1990 in Woodlands, Teas. The six foot two right handed pitcher attended Baylor University pitching for the Baylor Bears.
As a freshman he was the teams closer earning seven wins & a save in his first eight games. He became a starting pitcher in his sophomore & junior years, going 12-9 overall. In 2011he was drafted by the New York Mets as a third round pick (101st overall pick).
In 2014 he was invited to the Mets Spring Training as a non roster player. He made the AAA Las Vegas 51s where he went 11-5 with a 4.33 ERA. In the off season he was lost to the Baltimore Orioles getting selected in the Rule 5 draft. The Orioles waived him, hoping to work out a deal with the Mets but he was claimed by the Texas Rangers.
He would make his MLB debut with Texas on April 8th, giving up two runs & four hits in 2.2 innings pitched against the Oakland A's. On April 12th, his next start he took his first loss, coming to the Houston Astros.
After just four games he was returned to the New York Mets. He was sent to AAA Las Vegas again going 2-0 with a 3.00 ERA in 11 games.
Verrett made his Mets debut on June 18th, pitching two innings in a 7-1 loss to the Blue Jays in Toronto. Verrett struck out four batters. On July 5th he stepped in & made a rare save, pitching three scoreless innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
On August 23rd he was given a start by the Mets to rest Matt Harvey. Verrett was excellent, he went eight innings, allowing just one run while striking out eight in a 5-1 win in Colorado over the Rockies. The Mets would give him three more starts in September as to rest their young starters & reduce innings for the post season. He didn't pitch as well & took a loss to the Phillies on September 30th.
He did not pitch in the post season. On the year he went 1-2 with a save in 18 appearances. He posted a 3.59 ERA striking out 39 batters walking 15 in 47.2 innings.
