Remembering Mets History: (2007) Tom Glavine Wins 300th Career Game

August 5, 2007: The sell out crowd at Wrigley Field in Chicago was host to the First place New York Mets (63-48) & second place hometown Cubs (58-52) on ESPN's Sunday Night baseball.

All the fan fare was about Tom Glavine going for his 300th career win. Just a few nights earlier Glavine had left the mound in Milwaukee with a lead, but didn't get credit for the victory. On this night in Chicago, Glavine went 6 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on six hits and when he left the mound, even the friendly confines of Wrigley Field gave him a standing ovation.

Quotes:  "As a player and a person, you want people to respect you and respect what you're about," Glavine said. "The response tonight was overwhelming. That's something you never expect to hear on the road."

He became the 23rd pitcher in the history of the game to win 300 games. It was his Glavine's tenth victory of the year against six losses.

Mets skipper, Willie Randolph used five other Met pitchers after Glavines exit & Billy Wagner closed out the 8-3 victory.

Glavine helped out his own cause & drove in the first run of the game with an RBI single off Jason Marquis.

The Mets offensive star of the game; Carlos Delgado, doubled in the 5th to make it 2-0. Delgado was driven in by his friend Shawn Green making it 3-0 Mets. Tom Glavine was breathing a bit easier.

In the top of the 6th, Lastings Milledge doubled & was brought home by Jose Reyes. Reyes would advance on Luis Castillo's base hit & then steal third base.

Delgado grounded to second base scoring Reyes, as New York & Glavine were up 5-0.

In the home 6th, Derek Lee & Aramis Ramirez hit back to back doubles, scoring the first run off Glavine. The Cubs got two runs off in the 7th, one charged to Glavine making it a 5-3 game.

The Mets scored two more in the 8th inning, base hits by Castillo & David Wright set up RBI hits for Delgado & Paul Loduca. Delgado added a sac fly in the 9th, scoring Reyes with the Mets 8th run of the night.

Delgado would drive in four runs, going 2-4 with a walk & a sacrifice fly. Jose Reyes went 3-6 with an RBI & his league leading 11th triple.
