Today is Dedicated to John Lennon On His 70th Birthday

Today the world celebrates John Lennon on what would have been his 70th birthday. He gave us some of the best music that was ever recorded & wrote some of the best lyrics ever written. The young rebel put his hometown of Liverpool on map & together with the rest of the Beatles changed the face of popular music forever. His songs brought happiness to generations of fans & will live on forever. His visions of peace, love & unity are still what the world is striving for. He has & continues to inspire endless amounts of people of all different kinds of backgounds. I thank you John, for all your creativity which has been the soundtrack to so many great times in my life.

MUSIC: Finally after all these years John's solo albums have all been remastered, just as the Beatles collection was last year. In celebration of John Lennon's 70th birthday, EMI Capitol is releasing The John Lennon Signature Box Set. It includes eight digitally remastered Lennon studio albums from Johns original mixes: Plastic Ono Band, Imagine, Some Time In New York City, Mind Games, Walls and Bridges, Rock ‘N’ Roll, Double Fantasy, Double Fantasy Stripped Down, and Milk and Honey.

The set has two bonus discs: The Lennon Home Tapes, featuring previously unreleased recordings, with a 60-page hardcover book of photographs, drawings, art collages, & handwritten lyrics.

There is also a 70th Lennon birthday art print & a written essay. There are also two shorter versions of the remastered Lennon music in two different CD versions. One is a four disc set of Lennon solo songs called Gimmie Some Truth & the other is a single CD called Power To the People: the Hits.

Film: This weekend the movie Nowhere Boy was released, based on the adolescence years of Johns life. The film focuses on his start as a musician leading up to his Beatles fame. Another personal part of the fim shows Johns relationships with the two women who were most dominant at this stage of his life; his mother Julia & Aunt Mimi. There is a great recreation of the first historic meeting between a young John Lennon & Paul McCartney at St. Peters Church Dance in Woolton, Liverpool. The film is highly acclaimed & received great reviews inside Beatle circle.

Gathering: Besides the annual vigil & sing alongs at Strawberry Fields in Central Park, there will be a free viewing of the PBS movie Lennon NYC. This film focuses on John New York years in the 1970's with Yoko & son Sean. The screening is at 7PM on the Rumsey Playfield & you are encouraged to brink a blanket.
