October 8th, 2000- NLDS Game #4: 56,000 fans packed Shea Stadium and witnessed one of the best pitching performances in Mets history. The Mets have been an organization full of great pitchers and their have been many one hitters but Bobby Jones threw the only one in the post season. Bobby Jones had gone 11-6 with a 5.06 ERA during the regular season. He got the call in Game #4, his first post season start. The only inning where Jones had any trouble was in the Giants 5th, when Jeff Kent doubled and Jones issued his two walks. He got Mark Gardner to pop up ending the inning. No other base runners reached in any other inning.
At the plate, the Mets big bats put them on the board in the 1st inning. Mike Piazza drew a two out walk and Robin Ventura homered over the right centerfield fence. In the 5th inning, Bobby Jones struck out but reached first base on an error. Timo Perez doubled, then Eduardo Alfonzo doubled them both home capping off the 4-0 victory. The Mets advanced to the NLCS for the second straight year.
