2000 NLDS Game #3: Agbayani Walks Off With a HR in the 13th

October 7th, 2000 -NLDS Game #3: It was a classic afternoon epic playoff game that began with Tug McGraw throwing out the first pitch. The crowd of 56,000 was pumped up for the first home playoff game of the 2000 post season. Centerfield maz was there in the Mezzanine section after a great tailgate in the old Shea parking lot.

The Mets would go through six pitchers and so would the Giants. Rick Reed went seven strong innings giving up two runs. In the Mets 6th Mike Bordick walked & Daryl Hamilton got a pinch hit single, leading the way for rookie Timo Perez base hit scoring the first Mets run. Perez would tie Benny Agbayani with an NLDS leading five hits. Perez three RBIs were second to only Eduardo Alfonzo’s five. Alfonzo’s double in the 8th inning drove in pinch hitter Lenny Harris who reached on a fielder’s choice.


John Franco, Armando Benitez & Rick White struck out eight batters, allowing no runs on four hits over the next five innings. It wasn’t until the bottom of the 13th inning when Benny Agbayani connected off of Aaron Fultz blasting a HR over the left field wall winning the game in walk off fashion. Bobby Valentines man Benny Agbayani would have 16 hits and six RBIs in the 2000 post season; he had hit .289 during the season with 15 HRs & 60 RBIs.
