October 12, 1969- World Series Game #2: After all the excitement of the World Series wore off, the Mets found themselves down one game and the Orioles and the rest of the World believed they may have been done. Except that solid play, key hits and one of the best pitching staffs in baseball history were the reasons they got there, an today it showed. Jerry Koosman took the mound and shined in the national spotlight, taking a no hitter into the 7th inning. Koosman surrendered a lone run in th
e 7th when Paul Blair singled, stole second and scored on Brooks Robinson's base hit. They were the only two hits Koos allowed, as he pitched into the 9th inning getting relieved by Ron Taylor. With two outs Koos walked two batters and Gil Hodges went to Ron Taylor to get the last out. Koosman got an ovation from the Baltimore fans as he exited and Taylor got Brooks to ground out. The Mets had one their first World Series game and were coming to New York tied 1-1.In the top of the 4th Donn Clendenon led off the inning with a HR, his first of three in the Series. In the Mets 9th, Ed Charles & Jerry Grote singled and another unlikely World Series hero Al Weis, singled home the second run.
