Today In Mets History: 2007- Tom Glavine Wins 300th Game

August 5, 2007: The sell out crowd at Wrigley Field in Chicago was host to the 1st place Mets & 2nd place Cubs on Sunday Night baseball. All the fan fare was about Tom Glavine going for #300. Just a few nights earlier Glavine left the mound in Milwaukee with a lead but didn't get the victory. Tonight it finally happened. Glavine went 6 1/3 innings, allowing 2 runs on six hits and when he left the mound, the friendly confines of Wrigley Field gave him a standing ovation. "As a player and a person, you want people to respect you and respect what you're about," Glavine said. "The response tonight was overwhelming. That's something you never expect to hear on the road."

He became the 23rd pitcher in the history of the game to win 300 games. It was his 10th victory of the year against six losses.

Willie Randolph used 5 other Met pitchers in 2 2/3 innings to close out the 8-3 victory. The offensive star of the game was Carlos Delgado who drove in four runs, going 2-4 with a walk & a sacrifice fly. Jose Reyes went 3-6 with an RBI & his league leading 11th triple.Throw in RBIs by Sean Green & Paul Loduca as well as four hits from Luis Castillo & Lastings Milledge. Tom Glavine added an RBI single of his own to set the stage with the first run of the game in the 2nd inning.
