Today In Mets History: 2000- Benny Agbayani Has a Momentary Lapse of Reason

August 12, 2000: We can laugh at this one because the Mets won the game, in fact they were in the middle of a five game win streak and a stretch of 8 out of 10. They even went to the World Series so we can laugh again.
In the top of the 4th inning, San Francisco's catcher Bobby Estalella hit a fly ball to Benny Agbayani, he catches it &records the out. Being the nice guy Benny is, he gives the ball to a seven year old boy in the stands. The only problem was, there were only two outs and two runners on base. Jeff Kent & Ellis Burks come around to score putting the Giants ahead 2-1.

In the Mets 7th our old pal Sean Estes walked Bubba Trammell & then Felix Rodriquez walked Edgardo Alfonzo. With two outs Todd Zeile doubled to right field scoring both runners as the Mets went on to win 3-2. Mike Hampton got his 12th win, Armondo Benitez saved his 29th game, Agbayani was saved and we all laughed.
