Michael Edwin Bruhert was born June 24, 1951 in the Jamaica section of Queens, New York. The tall 6’ 6" pitcher had a very short playing career spanning only one season. He was originally drafted by the Mets in 1971, taken by the Phillies and sent back to the Mets in 1973. According to his 1979 baseball card, he was the son in law to Gil Hodges widow.He was brought up as a member of the 1978 Mets going 4-11 with a 4.78 ERA. He pitched in 27 games (22 starts), in 133 innings he allowed 171 hits & 71 earned runs. His best game came in September at Philadelphia when he pitched a four hit shutout, striking out five Phillies. In 27 outings that year he allowed at least one earned run in 25 of them. At the end of the season he was sent packing with Bob Myrick to Texas for veteran Doc Ellis. Bruhert never cracked the Ranger roster.
After baseball Bruhert was the pitching coach at Fordham University in the 1980’s & 1990’s. He helped Fordham alumni Pete Harnisch and Miguel Jimenez get to the big leagues. Bruhert and wife Rosemary live on Long Island.
