Dwight Bernard was born May 31, 1952 in Mt. Vernon Illinois. He was a Mets draft pick in 1974 and cracked the depleted Met bullpen in 1978. He pitched there for two uneventful seasons, making 30 appearances in each season. He went 1-4 in 1978 and posted a 4.31 ERA. The next year was worse 0-3 with a 4.70 ERA, allowing almost 60 hits in just 48 innings pitched. He was traded to Milwaukee in the off season for another winner, Mark Bomback. Bernard toiled in the minors then went 3-1, saving 8 games on days Rollie Fingers wasn’t around for the 1982 AL Champion Brewers. He pitched 4 scoreless innings in the post season, including one in the 1982 World Series Game 6. He was done after toiling in the minors for three seasons, and has since been a long time AAA pitching coaching, currently with Tacoma.
